The store looks cute, however, the food is dreadful. I tried them twice one with the spicy beef and it tasted like nothing and was dry but not terrible. I thought it was just bad because they were closing. Next time I traveled I tried the spicy chicken and it was literally like eating dry flavorless wood chips. I love empanadas and this place is so simple but yet they are horrible and still manage to make terrible food. The service was friendly though! But at least the subway next door is consistent.

Super dry, I wish they came with salsa because that would’ve helped but they only have packs of hot sauce 🥲
Good food and great amount for the price!

The spinach & cheese tasted horrible
I’m a huge fan of empanadas. Actually anything with a flaky outside that has been baked or fried with deliciousness inside. Now that I think about it one of my earliest memories of this was “fleischkeugle” - a German from Russia dough pocket with meat inside. Eating them as a child at the cattle auction while my dad did business.
This love has followed me across the globe. Pastizzi in Malta, pastelitos or catevia in Republica Dominicana and yes, empanadas. So when I see half moon empanadas in ORD I’m always game for a snack.
Today I got the spinach and cheese. It was an average empanada. Flavorful, warm, the crust was light and not overcooked. It doesn’t elicit the same memories and joy of buying a freshly fried catevia in the streets of Santo Domingo but it was good. And I’ll order one again…and again…and again.
Service and ambiance? Who cares you’re getting a to go pocket of good flavor. Just make sure to have some drink to wash it down. Which I failed to get so I’m off to locate a vending machine.

Spicy beef empanada? More like flavorless dry ground beef in a grilled bread wrap. Gross.

Empanadas were not great considering that for the price of 6 empanadas (6$ each) you could buy 2 subway combos next door. The spinach empanada had little cheese and the beef and chicken were too salty.

Just grabbed a spinach/cheese empanada from Half Moon in a quiet little alcove near Concourse G at Chicago O'Hare. It was excellent! There was no wait and the person who served me was so kind. I was nervous about flying into O'Hare for a plane change. Half Moon helped make it positive. Thank you.
