My issue with Hon Kee is gouging on corkage for beer. It was Hon Kees decision not obtain a liquor license and I like to have a beer with my meal. There is no statement anywhere on the menu declaring a corkage charge for beer. Charging $3 per beer, arbitrarily apparently for my ‘large’ 22 ounce Heineken that cost me just over $4 a bottle. Hon Kees corkage involved delivering two glasses (same as used for water) - I opened I poured. Good luck with this greedy grab there are plenty of great options in the neighborhood that will have my dollars from now on.

Just came back from Home Keep BBQ sorry to say our experience did not live up to what I have read. We ordered small plates so we could order various items. Rost Duck was dry skin tough, so was the chicken everything was microwave that meant it was warm for like for 2 min.!
2. Chicken was all bones hard to eat with chop sticks or fork and spoon.

BBQ pork was good, but my god there were so many bone fragments in the roast duck, and no sauce or anything on the meat to help flavor the rice

I've never had anything short of a fantastic experience, whether eating in or dining out. Their roast meats and Cantonese food always hit the spot, and their BBQ roast duck absolutely blew me away the first time I tried it. The service is always friendly, quick, and welcoming. I recently picked up a very large order for a party, and it was packaged in easy to carry boxes. When the woman at the front realized I did not have anyone else helping me with the order, she ran to the back to get another staff member to help me carry the food out. Even when I said I didn't need help, they wouldn't take no for an answer.

My girlfriend and I stopped by Hon Kee after shopping at our favorite grocery store, Tai Nam. Since she had been here before, she highly recommended we stop by for lunch and it did not disappoint!

For my first visit, I ordered the BBQ Duck & Chicken with Rice & Broccoli, while she got the BBQ Pork & Duck. Words can’t describe how incredible the meal was! The duck was perfectly tender, packed with rich flavor, and had just the right amount of saltiness to complement the savory sauce. Every bite was absolutely delicious.

To top it off, the fresh smoothie I tried was so refreshing and smooth—the perfect way to complete the meal.

Hon Kee is a must-try for anyone craving authentic, flavorful BBQ in Chicago’s Vietnamese Town. We’ll definitely be back!

Roast pork was cold. Then house triple on rice was a rip off. The tiniest portion of chicken on rice with a few slices of sausage, egg and veg. Very disappointed.

I have been ordering food from Hon Kee for 10 years, ever since they were a small restaurant. Today, I ordered through UberEats because I’m sick and couldn’t go pick it up as usual. After waiting for an hour, I received a phone call asking me to check if my order had arrived. No delivery ever showed up. I checked the lobby and asked the doorman—my food was not delivered.

I confirmed with them that I hadn’t received the order. They simply said, “Thank you for checking. We’ll cancel your order and you’ll receive a full refund.” I’m really disappointed with how the restaurant handled this situation. I wasn’t looking for a refund—I wanted the food I had been waiting for. It was already almost 8 PM. Now I have to find another restaurant and place a new order, which will take another 40 minutes.

If there was an issue with the order, the customer should be informed earlier. Making a customer wait and then cancelling the food at the last minute—how is that good business?

This will be my last time ordering from Hon Kee Restaurant.

I have been coming here since I was a child; now I bring my own children here when we happen to be in the city. My dad used to swing by and pick up a couple
pounds of bbq pork and pork belly. Occasionally we would dine in. I’ve introduced this establishment to friends who have moved to this area. I wish I had something like this where I lived.

I love this restaurant. It was great when it was small, and only got better when they moved and grew.
