Service is kind of slow. It seems like they are short staffed. The stir fry and steamed fish are very good! Also strongly recommend the steamed eggplants. I do not recommend their chicken soup. But their vegetables dish, pork belly, beer duck
and fish are very good.

Good food, bad service.

The table sign for ordering was visibly dirty. The food was okay, but the service was nonexistent. The food took a long time to arrive, but since it’s a holiday, I can understand the delay. The worst part was the female server who inexplicably came over and asked if we wanted to pay the bill, as if rushing us to leave. This is the first time I’ve encountered a server who pushes guests out like that. I’m giving 2 stars just for the food.

The portion sizes for dine-in and take-out are not in line with each other. The portions are pitifully small and only a small box of rice is brought, which is very uncomfortable.

The stir-fry pork belly is stinky, we asked for a replacement or return the chief said it’s impossible since all their ingredients are prepared in the same day morning. But it did taste abnormally stinky.

Came with a group of people. Their order was delivered and finished before my order came. People at the tables next to us who came after got their orders . Food was just ok.

I came during offhours and waited over a hour for food. While I waited, the cooks made their own food and sat at a table to eat together, and forgot to cook my order. When I let them know about my order, they said it'd take only 8 more minutes but actually was more like 30m.

I highly don't recommend this restaurant, and I'd be surprised if they're still in business several years down the road.

No. Poor service, too expensive. I went to Hunan Bistro the previous week with my company for a private party in the rooms upstairs. Wanted to take my family to share the experience.
The food and atmosphere would have been better if the sevice wasn't so terrible. You don't just throw dishes in the table, no emotion, no comment, this is America, not China. I don't know why I left a tip but my tip to you is go elsewhere. 不好

Special Thoughts

Well... Here is my experience. As others mentioned, the food was delicious ( It truly was!) BUT... I'm a stickler when it comes to GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! And when it is not given. IT CHANGES MY DINING EXPERIENCE!! Have you ever been somewhere that if you're not the same culture as them... You DONT GET THE SAME TREATMENT ??? THAT'S!! what made my dining experience upsetting!! We had to constantly ask for things that we should have gotten just because we WERE PAYING CUSTOMERS!!! LIKE WATER REFILLS, SILVERWARE, MORE RICE!! I watched as other's of the same culture got attention as soon as they ran lowof Anything!! they were taken care of !!!! I noticed there were employees in the back that kept STARING at me and my party as We ate !!! ( Very unsettling) You know.... As I'm relating my experience. IM NOT SURE WHY WE STAYED!!! No... I know why because I believe in giving every establishment a Chance!! I did give them that and was NOT IMPRESSED!!

Very awesome way of ordering, you could order whenever you want off your phone! The food was very delicious and spicy, they were serving authentic Chinese food, such as gizzards, intestines, and frog. It was very tasty.

Typically I don’t give out 5 stars to Chinese restaurants since I have higher standard for them because of my ethnicity, but I am truly impressed by the quality of food here. This is the best Hunan restaurant that I have ever had! Let’s start the review:
1. 麻辣大片牛肉: they used beef shank meat for this dish, thinly sliced and marinated, then stir fried to perfection. It’s spicy and numbing, seasoned with soy sauce and Chinese 5 spice. The sesame seeds adds a new dimension to the flavor. The meat is a bit chewy for beginners, but that’s how this dish is suppose to taste. The numbness will only hit you after you swallow your first bite, think of it like the after taste of a smooth sake. Highly recommended!
2. 干锅鹿茸姑: a mixture of three different kind of dried fungus and pork belly, stir fried to perfection. This is my favorite dish today. The aromatic dry mushrooms and rich pork belly complements each other well. The chewiness of the mushroom meets the rich pork belly, perfect symphony!
3. 腊鸡莴笋汤: the smoked chicken was made in house, Smokey and a bit chewy, but using it in a soup softened the chicken and add some smokiness to the soup. The nutty celtuce absorbed the chicken flavor and IMO, the best thing in the soup. This is a must order dish in the restaurant if you are into smoked meat. It was a new experience for me!
4. 长沙臭豆腐: for people who are familiar with stinky tofu, this is a piece of heaven. Most of the stinky tofu in America are similar to regular tofu, not stinky enough. This is the real deal, yet still tolerable to me. The tofu is fried and served with a special sauce. I loved it.
5. Stir fried morning glory: typical stir fried vegetable dish, perfectly cooked, but it would be better if they put less oil in the dish.

Overall a great restaurant, highly recommend if you want to have an authentic Hunan cuisine in Chicago.

Parking: Plenty of street parking when we visited the restaurant. Since the restaurant is located near the end of China town, you would want to park near the center because there are not a lot of available space next to the restaurant.
