Server never asked if we needed anything after passing us at least 3x. The server who goes by the name of Jay who was working the bar where no one was sitting was inexcusable. The place had only 8 guest basically empty. Had to request a bag the ticket and the lemonade. This is what happens when 20% gratuities is added on before service . Also to be out of certain food before 430pm is unacceptable.Way overpriced way overpriced.

⭐️⭐️ 2/5 Disappointed with My Experience at Jordan’s Soul Café (Hyde Park)
I really wanted to enjoy my visit to Jordan’s Soul Café, but unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations. While our server provided phenomenal service, the overall dining experience was frustrating.
The kitchen was extremely slow, drinks took quite a while to arrive, appetizers came out separately 5 to 10 minutes apart, and entrées didn’t come for another 30–45 minutes. Despite the delays, the restaurant enforced a strict 1½-hour seating policy and rushed us to leave, even though our group spent nearly $500 on food and drinks.
To add to the frustration, a 20% automatic gratuity was included on the bill. I don’t mind tipping well for great service, but when the timing and pacing of the meal are so poorly managed, it feels unfair.
Overall, while the service staff did their best, the kitchen delays, rushed seating policy, and mediocre food made this visit very disappointing. Sadly, I won’t be returning.

The food was good but the service was terrible. The booth are very small we kept having to have them to take stuff off the table so we could eat comfortably. Then this high service charge with the tax for 4 people to eat there is most definitely ridiculous. Most definitely would not return

Jordyn’s Soul Café – Where Soul Meets the Islands and Flavor Steals the Show
Walking into Jordyn’s Soul Café feels like stepping right into the heartbeat of Chicago - warm, vibrant, and full of flavor in every sense of the word. The atmosphere hums with that down-to-earth, urban Chicago energy — a mix of laughter, good music, and the comforting smell of slow-cooked goodness wafting through the air. The crowd is as diverse as the menu, and somehow everyone feels like family by the end of the night.
Let’s talk flavor because that’s where Jordyn’s truly shines. From the first bite of the Pot Roast Empanadas, you know you’re in for something special. Crispy on the outside, melt-in-your-mouth tender on the inside, and packed with that soulful, home-cooked flavor that instantly hits your heart. It’s soul food reimagined with a Caribbean twist — familiar yet exciting, comforting yet bold.
The oxtails are slow-braised perfection — rich, tender, and swimming in a sauce that begs to be soaked up with every last grain of rice and peas. And then there’s the jerk chicken — smoky, spicy, and layered with that island heat that builds just right, balanced by the sweetness of perfectly charred edges. Every bite tells a story of tradition, creativity, and serious culinary love.
But what really makes Jordyn’s stand out is the service. The team doesn’t just serve you — they welcome you. Every server, every host, every chef in the kitchen works together with a rhythm that makes you feel like you’ve been coming here for years. It’s genuine hospitality, the kind that makes the meal feel like Sunday dinner at your favorite auntie’s house.
In a city known for its food, Jordyn’s Soul Café is setting the bar high — blending soul and Caribbean flair into something uniquely Chicago. Come hungry, come curious, and come ready to fall in love with every bite.

I'm a cheap person, so when I saw the menu prices, I started to leave since I have my kids with me( I'll spend on my wife, but the kids get dollar menu).
We stayed, and glad we did. The food is soo delicious, and well seasoned.
We ordered short rib with gravy, collard and yams, kids got lobster mac, and oxtail rice bowl.
If we ever make it back to Chicago, this joint is a must.
Don't cheat yourself, hit it at least once, you won't regret it.
Trell was a great server and offered great selections for us first timers.

Let start out by saying the atmosphere was nice our server Jay was awesome But….My Oxtails were burnt and salty didn’t want to overreact so kind of just went with it and then the Collard greens were so salty I had enough just had to say something. I probably will never eat here again because at the end I didn’t appreciate being asked pretty much to get out because we know that last impression is definitely lasting.
