I previously left a five star review in all categories, but I recently I found out that the workers there only get the cash tips, not the ones left digitally. The owners can feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I am. Extremely disappointing.

I’m obsessed with this place. Sooooooo goood!! Ask for extra sauce
Crispy katsu, moist tamogoyaki, reasonably priced. The space is quite small so take it to go if you have more than 3 or 4 folks. Highly recommended though!

Streamlined katsu chain. Not my favorite. Was given the wrong order and it all seemed like it was pulled out of a hot box. Was okay.

I find katsu to be pretty hit or miss so was pleasantly surprised when I tried Katsu-shack and found the tonkatsu to be some of the best I've had. Perfectly fried and paired with slaw and rice hit the spot for a quick lunch!

Katsu is not as good as one would expect.
While the katsu is crispy, pork is much less tender than one would expect.
I was met with a big chunk of gristle in my second bite, and apparently the pork chop is not treated properly to either remove or tenderize the gristle, which is extremely hard to bite through.
In addition, the center part of the chop, the lean pork, is more stiff than one would expect.
The price is not too bad. The pork chop plus rice and miso is $16.45 pre tax/$18.14 post tax. There’s less than half of the katsu I’m showing in the picture, and I believe the whole pork chop is over 1/2 pound. I’ll leave to you to judge if this is overpriced or not.
3/5 so-so

I had carry out Katsu Curry.
The katsu was thicker than the average Katsu out there and the Curry was uniquely delicious.
It's good to know this place is authentic as can be and taste that can be trusted.

What a spectacular new gem to land in Lakeview.
Go here immediately and taste some authentic katsu and some curry. Karaage was delicious. Can’t wait to come back and try the sandos. Thank you!!

The best Katsu spot in Chicago!
Crispy, flavorful, and authentic — whether you go for chicken or pork, every bite delivers that perfect crunch. The cozy Japanese vibe makes it feel like a quick trip to Tokyo. Highly recommend stopping by on your way to Wrigley Field — it’s the kind of meal that’ll recharge your energy and keep you smiling through the game!

I love this place. Great food and love the drink choices. Japanese family owned and so the Katsu is authentic but they got a lot of great presentation options for the Katsu. Right on point!

I enjoyed my first time here. Ordered a Katsudon which is my litmus test for whether a Japanese restaurant is good or not; Katsu-Shack definitely delivered. The food came out insanely hot (fresh-made) which is a great sign. I’m looking forward to trying their other items, especially in colder weather!
