The food was amazing. I got the katsu pork sando and it was incredible. Pork was very juicy, the breading was crispy, and the sandwich bread wasn’t soggy. They give you a large serving of pork, which makes it worth the price. I did have to wait a bit, but the place was full and the food made it worth the wait.

I’m bringing family here.

Having walked past Katsu-Shack so many times, I was finally able to make the time to stop by. The staff are incredibly kind and the food is delicious! We got the Katsu Chicken Sando, which came out so crispy and warm. The food made me nostalgic of my childhood, thank you. Having the sandwich cut neatly in half and wrapped made it easy to eat as well. Will definitely be back! Highly recommend.

Incredible Katsu Chicken sandwich. Being from Portland, OR, we have lots of amazing Katsu so I admit I was a little skeptical when I tried this place. The sandwich I had was one of the best Katsu sandwiches I’ve ever had (including one in Japan!!) hands down. This place is a must-try and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before they’re featured positively on social media/elsewhere bc this place is incredible and authentic

This place was awesome! The pork sandwich was perfect. The breading, the flavor, the milk bread, and the first bite to the last bite was perfection. I love that they were playing Japanese music in the background. Their beverage offerings were also unique with mitsuya cider among other unique japanes drink options. I will def be coming back.

Ordered the black katsu chicken curry for tonight. The curry lacks flavor, the rice needs more water & their cabbage needs a better sauce (too bland).

I expected more with the curry coz of the reviews

Take-out review

The curry tastes a lot like mole (Mexican) and not like the curries of Japan. I had two entrees one with pork and the other chicken. The meat was good although nothing amazing. Overall this was disappointing as I expected a little more with the curry

I visited here on Friday night along with my friend, ordered Katsu-sand, Katsu-curry, and Tonkatsu. Served with fries, Panko was very crispy and pork was also very soft and amazing!
Stuff was very friendly and advised in detail how we should order.
Hope this Katsu-Shack opens second store in Wrigley Field soon!!

Incredible!
Ample portion of Pork Katsu with an elegant Black Curry that just makes all of your cozy corner Japanese shop dreams come true.

Super sweet staff and food was ready as quick as a perfectly cooked katsu can be.

A 100% must go to if you work at the hospitals nearby and want something to change up your routine. Notably the food is very travel ready and totally reheatable if you need it on the go.

I'll be back anytime I'm in the area.

Lovely little store, run by a true katsu connaisseur, baseball fan and very cheerful guy. Even knew our Dutch hometown! The food was great, nothing to complain about.

The pork cutlet sandwich was delicious! ! This is the cutlet sandwich that we Japanese people want! The lemon pepper tornado potato was also delicious for the first time 🍋 The matcha shake after the meal was also excellent! The matcha from Japan had a nice aroma. I will definitely visit again!

Finally! A Katsu Resto in Chicago! Just got back from Vegas and we missed trying the Katsu there so we looked and found Katsu Shack in the corner of Halsted and Clark. Menu was easy to understand and the staff explained how the sauce taste like when we asked. Ordered The Katsu Bento box that came with Pork Katsu, miso soup, cabbage slaw, pickles and some veggie side dish. Pork Katsu was so tender, juicy and flavorful. My craving was satisfied. Hubby got the Karaage Chicken which was also perfectly cooked and had the right amount of rice and veggies. All in all, we will definitely keep on coming back. We’ll even bring family and friends. Wish you have more seating though.

I was excited to see a katsu curry shop open up near me and decided to order takeout. I tried the pork black katsu curry and a katsu bowl. It was prepared quickly and I picked up my food with no issue. The food was okay, I have had better katsu at other Japanese restaurants in the city. There was nothing that would make me crave ordering from here again. The portions were small and the salad was flavorless.

I was more disappointed that the drink I ordered was not included and that my katsu bowl did not come with any sauce. I feel like these little details are very important for a new business to get right especially when they weren’t busy. I called the following day to request a refund for my missing drink. I was told that my refund would be addressed at the end of the day and I would receive a call back. I never received a call back and I never received a refund. I eventually had to dispute the charge on my credit card.
