We drove 3.5 hours from the SW corner of Indy to give them a try. Mostly hits (calamari, short ribs adobo small plates), a couple meh (milkfish was pretty dry, crab cakes made from canned). Great calamansi juice and a wonderful staff. Will try again next time we are up on Chi town.
I don’t get to eat Filipino food often when going out where I live (Ironic since I’m Filipino), but this was amazeballs. Good service, good food, and fair prices for the quality and portions you get
We wanted to try something new and picked Kubo. So glad we did! The food was great! We shared a couple appetizers and a couple entrees and all were flavorful delicious. There was a big party behind us that was getting a family style setup. Everything was set up on the table for them, it was beautiful! It's a cozy place but the lighting was a little dark for my taste. I had to use my phone light to read the menu.
Absolutely wonderful!!! Service was awesome and the food was delicious! We had the best time and everyone in our party loved what we ordered. We also tried a bunch of the desserts which were also amazing.
This restaurant has become not only my favorite Fil-Am restaurant, but also my favorite all-time restaurant! Their skirt steak (arrachera) in medium rare was life-changing! I hope they never change their skirt steak ‘cuz we will be back! We also had truffle fries with chipotle aoli and ube ice cream, and they were also good! :)
I'll start with the only positive thing about this place. The food was absolutely superb. Like out of this world good. Unfortunately, the food is where the positivity ends, so let's dive in to our uncomfortable and upsetting experience...
We are not from the area, so this was our first trip to this restaurant. My wife, who is a Filipina, really wanted to eat at a Filipino restaurant while we were on vacation in Chicago so we thought we'd try this place. We completely regretted it. From the moment we walked in, our server, who I can only assume was Cemal, was extremely unpleasant and short with us for no reason. We saw him interact with other customers and he was really nice and friendly with them, but with us he was very, very suplado, even though we were nothing but polite and respectful to him. He got my wife's order wrong, and instead of apologizing, he sat there and argued with her. When she tried to explain to him that his mistake was the result of a misunderstanding, he talked over her and continued to argue with her before eventually saying very snidely that he could make what she had actually ordered. He never once apologized for his mistake, nor for his rudeness. In what world is it acceptable to argue with your customers and treat them like they are beneath you? We were both deeply offended. I can only say that the younger man who was working with him was very nice. We had no issues with him and we wish we could've traded the older gentleman for him during our visit and not dealt with the older man at all, aside from him showing us to our seats.
The atmosphere itself was cozy, but the reason we gave it 2 stars is because aside from the food, you could hardly tell it was a Filipino restaurant. There isn't even a flag anywhere within the establishment! The only real indication were the 2 big utensils in the entryway that say Philippines. The picture of the Kubo on the wall is of course Filipino, but anyone who didn't read the website or isn't familiar with the Philippines won't have a clue as to what that is, especially since there's no explanation of it anywhere within the restaurant. We have a Philippine restaurant in our city, and they have a flag, a map of the big Islands, explanations of simple Tagalog words, a Philippine story on the menu, and all sorts of Philippine culture covering the walls. My wife was rather insulted by the seemingly lack of pride for her home in a restaurant that was founded by her people and serves food that is exclusive to their native land.
On a final note, this was our first and last outing to Kubo. It was an insulting and disappointing experience. Absolutely the worst customer service either of us have ever experienced, which was made that much worse by the fact that that kind of service came from a place that is owned by people who have a reputation for being some of the kindest people in the world. What a let down.
Visited on a Friday evening and was worried it would be a wait or too crowded, but my wife and I were seated right away.
Great drink menu, especially if you like martinis. Food was delicious, we recommend the salmon, adobo pork ribs, and Pancit noodles (we prefer rice noodles over wheat noodles) you also have to get egg rolls and ube ice cream for dessert!
Service and atmosphere were great as well. Though this was one of the darkest restaurants I’ve been in, so it could be hard to see the menu for some. But still a great vibe and apparently a good first date spot, we noticed a few happening while there.
We walked over from City Suites Hotel about 8 min walk. We are not from Chicago but if we were, Kubo would definitely be a regular visit for us.

As a Filipino-American who’s lived in Bacolod, this place is a great slice of the motherland in Chicago. Food is absolutely delicious, drinks are delightful too. Lechon Kawali was especially scrumptious
Halo-Halo here is a MUST. So much love for Kubo 🇵🇭

We had an amazing experience at this family owner restaurant. We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door. Our servers were not only gracious and kind but they made sure to ask if we were catching a show after. They made sure to rush our order in and kept an eye on the clock. The food was delicious as well. We ordered the chicken egg rolls, pancit, and adobo ribs with the lychee martini and margarita. The servers, who we came to realize were the owners, were so welcoming and kind. They checked in consistently, and even held my food at the restaurant while we watched our show across the street. I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more. Next time we’ll have to try the ice cream!

We came here as a group of 12 people to experience the Kamayan meal for my wife’s 30th birthday. Christine and staff were wonderful in explaining the significance of Kamayan and the food was AMAZING. The reservation process was really easy too and knew what to expect. We hope to be back again to do Kamayan and other meals as well. My favorite part was the Mussels and longganisa. If you have a group that likes food experiences I’d recommend doing this meal.

Amazing! What a wonderful experience. My partner surprised me for my birthday and it was my first time in the states to have a kamayan. The food was phenomenal and Christine and her staff were fantastic. Really great customer experience. They made my birthday, while sharing my culture, with friends a great experience. Will be coming back again to do another kamayan!
