Have loved this restaurant for decades. It only seems to get better over time. We revel in the palm and ceiling fan ambiance of a fictional Southeast Asia setting while dining on truly innovative dishes presented in a pristine manner.

It has quickly become one of my favorite spots! Been here three times, and the food is consistently delicious, and I especially appreciate that the ambiance is perfect for conversation. My first visit was at the bar with my manager, and we really enjoyed the tapas-style dinner, sharing different plates. My second visit was with a good friend, and I had your signature red snapper dish. As someone who is Cambodian, it immediately reminded me of how my dad used to cook our catfish... it was absolutely delicious! Most recently, I tried the sea bass, and as expected, it was very delectable. This is definitely a spot I plan to keep visiting!

Nice spot for casual dining; the food came out fast and hot. Good value too.

I've ate here a good number of times across the country but every time I eat at the Chicago location, I get a really awkward vibe from the staff; almost as if I am unwanted and unwelcomed. I eat out at least once daily if not multiple times daily when traveling. I'm familiar with standard dining etiquette, environment norms, and other social norms. I have never been able to understand why I do not feel welcomed at this location but felt it relevant and frequent enough to comment.

Le Colonial was the perfect place for our small wedding ceremony and reception with 70 guests. Pat went above and beyond helping us choose our menu and recommending an incredible florist who fit our style perfectly. On the day itself, Pat and the team were everywhere they needed to be - making sure everything ran smoothly without us having to worry about a thing. The food, the ambiance, and the service were all exceptional. Truly - a great venue for an intimate wedding.

Average food but good (although problematic) ambience. Not bad for the area but definitely not amongst the best in Chicago.

A wonderful dining experience from start to finish. The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding. The manager was extra helpful and made us feel truly special for our birthday occasion, adding an unforgettable touch to our trip to Chicago.

From start to finish, our experience at Le Colonial Chicago was simply delightful. The moment we stepped into the lush, palm‑filled dining room, we felt transported to a chic French‑Vietnamese escape—elegant but comfortable.
We began with a beautifully balanced yellow‑coconut chicken curry and shared the “shaking beef” which was tender and full of flavor. The mains arrived beautifully presented, and each dish had that perfect balance of subtle spices and fresh herbs.
The terrace overlooking Oak Street was a highlight—especially in the evening with the lights and passing city buzz. The service was polished, the staff knew the menu well and offered excellent wine and cocktail suggestions to pair.
All in all, it was a perfect spot for a special evening out. The atmosphere, food, and service were all just right. Highly recommend if you’re looking for an upscale Vietnamese‑French dining experience in Chicago.

Le Colonial: A perfect escape, assuming you don't mind the crushing reality of returning to your real life afterward.
This Gold Coast staple nails the assignment. The atmosphere is so lush and transportive, it feels like they spent 90% of the budget on lighting and exotic plants. It was, without question, my favorite part. I'm already mentally decorating my non-existent veranda to look exactly like the second floor.
The French-Vietnamese hybrid cuisine was really good—no complaints there. Specifically, their version of the Peking Duck was very well done; perfectly crispy and entirely too satisfying.
But let's talk about the Garlic Noodles. These noodles are the reason I am now planning a highly inconvenient solo trip back. I would betray someone for a bowl of those noodles in an instant. They are criminally good, and I resent them for making me feel such intense, singular devotion.
The service? Impeccable. They moved around the room with the silent, terrifying grace of people who are paid far too much to care that much. It made me feel simultaneously pampered and judged, which is the Gold Coast dining experience in a nutshell.
Come here, get excellent food (and those noodles), and witness interior design so stunning it will actively ruin your appreciation for every other space you occupy. It’s great. Don't miss it.

Sadly, Le Colonial didn’t live up to the hype. The atmosphere was lovely, but the food was just average—nothing memorable. The two of us had the Cha gio, Banh Uot, Pho Bo, and Bo Luc Lac. Portions were surprisingly small for the price, and we left still hungry after spending quite a bit. For the cost, we expected more flavor and substance. Beautiful setting, but overall a disappointing experience.

Le Colonial offers an upscale French-Vietnamese dining experience in a beautiful Gold Coast row house. The ambiance is elegant yet relaxed, with balcony seating and a lovely outdoor patio. The menu features refined takes on classic Vietnamese dishes, blending French culinary techniques with traditional flavors. Service is polished and attentive, making it ideal for special occasions or a sophisticated night out. Be prepared for a higher price point, but the quality and presentation make it worth it.

Food and service were both outstanding. Normally I can take or leave pho, it’s usually “fine.” Now I understand what people are talking about when they say they love pho, because this was incredible! We also had the crispy shrimp & pork rolls and the chicken dumplings appetizers, which were excellent. Our entrees were spicy shrimp stir fry, shaking beef, and chicken noodle stir fry. The chicken was my favorite but they were all excellent. As was the side of fried rice! The pineapple coconut cake we had for dessert was truly delicious!
