I was absolutely floored when I arrived to Obélix that afternoon; after a trip to Taqueria Chingon earlier that day, I was excited to try the Poilevey brothers new restaurant. By all accounts, it is a departure from the traditional Le Bouchon, which their family owned and is well reveered throughout Chicago but has trotted along a pretty well worn path. Obélix combines several different flavors while retaining a French based cuisine; it's this combination that sounds irrestible, like the foie gras taco and this incredible pastor hollandaise, rendered al pastor fat from the aforementioned taco joint they own.I parked my vehicle nearby, payin the street parking, getting there at 4:40. I had spoke to Obélix staff just days before and was assured I didn't need a reservation and I could walk in especially during the opening hours. I couldn't make a resevration as I did not have my flight plans yet and had a meeting earlier that day; I figured walking in would be the best and most respectful way to approach. Fortunately, my flight was early, so early I would be able to try Taqueria Chingon earlier (as mentioned) and have a good amount of time before moving on to Obélix. As 5:00 approached, I walked from Mr. Beef (pictures only as it was closed but how could I resist a couple poses next to The Bear's location, eh?) and noticed the restaurant action of tables being prepared, wait staff bustling, and wine glasses being wiped... missing. I walked along Huron St baffled but made my way to the entrance and pulled at the door at 5:01.Closed.I yanked again, like maybe it was a test to see if I was formidable enough to have their 10-Day Dry-Aged Duck Breast w/ Mole Veracruz. I guess not.Closed.I pulled up my phone and sure enough, it was listed as open on Google, no Facebook, and on their very active Instagram there no mention of the place being closed, not a post or an IG story. I was confused as when I first noticed their Instaram page they had announced a half off all champagne for lunch; I checked every so often and it was an active page. Just now, April 5th, they reposted natalia.vehera's story of a fine meal she had. It looks good but I can't eat phone.I was pretty dissappointed as I flew in specifially to eat here on my way to eat at other places in Indianapolis and Cincinnati.Suddenly, the door opened. Not the main door, but a side door next to what looks like a garage entrance. An employee came out and said "Oh hi, we're closed." to which I responded "Oh, that's odd, I thought-" and was cut off with "Oh, it's a Super Bowl party, yea, sorry." The employee scurried away and closed the door behind them (I'm not gonna identify them, even with pronouns, b/c it's not about this person, even if the interaction left something to be desired).I was stunned. I'm not mad they had a Super Bowl party, hell, that sounds great, but surely this couldn't be a last minute thing, and even if so, there was no announcement on any of their social media accounts nor was I made aware of this when I called earlier. I was completely dissappointed, especially since I won't be able to come back in time to try them again.I'll probably be back at some point, and I'll most likely love it very much, but this experience really soured my expectations from the operations team at Obélix, especially for someone who flew in from Texas to try this venue.

Our son lives in Chicago and we asked his girlfriend to choose a nice place for us to fly in and take them out to dinner to celebrate his birthday… Obélix did NOT disappoint! My husband is French and used to work in the food industry so to say our standards are high is an understatement. You will come out of an experience here a few pennies poorer yet you will chalk this up to a rich gastronomical experience bar none. The service is impeccable (timing and engagement) and food, sublime. I was so looking forward to sharing angel food cake with my son as we did while he was growing up but we simply indulged all evening and had no room but for espressos. We enjoyed a bottle of Crémant to start and followed with a bottle of Beaujolais Fleury which was incredible once it opened…. The Dorade was outstanding and my family enjoyed the pâté en croute, soupe à l’onglon gratinée , les escargots bourguignon, macarons avec foie gras; and absolutely adored their aged steaks… the experience was outstanding and was well worth the flight to make a memorable evening with our beloved son. Try to save room for dessert as I hear it’s outstanding !!

Probably one of the top 5 restaurants for me and I grew up in France - I am a super picky eater but could not find one flaw the entire night - the food is exceptional and the service is impeccable. Definitely on the expensive side but the value is there . Thank you for an outstanding evening . I never remember all the stuff we buy but I never forget great food !

Honestly for the price the food could be better. To be fair, nothing beats Red Hot Ranch.

We have been wanting to try Obélix since it opened, just haven't had the opportunity until now. It certainly did not disappoint. We had an absolutely fabulous experience - thanks in large part to Giulietta. She was a gem of a waitress. Apart from ordering too much food, we wouldn't change a thing. We started with the Fois Gras Macarons and the Foie-co, followed by the Duck Lyonnaise. They were all amazing. So much duck in the Lyonnaise. We moved from there to the Duck Breast and the Squab Pithivier with a side of the Macaroni Gratin. Every bite was delicious. The macaroni was definitely the most decadent and amazing macaroni and cheese we've ever had -- and I'm a bit of a connoisseur. We did not have room for dessert but we did enjoy a glass of the Roulot Abricot - which was unlike anything we've ever had. Thank you to Giulietta for the fabulous wine recommendations. We loved the space and the vibe of the place and really cannot wait to return!

This was such a great brunch! I’d read about the brunch at Obélix, and as someone who loves French food, I had to come here with my family. The service was great and everyone was very kind, though we found it odd no one ever asked how our food was tasting. The food was tasting spectacular! We got the escargot, plain croissant, lyonnaise salad, french onion soup, poutine, crepe homard, and foie gras & pancake. Everything was incredible EXCEPT the pancake glaze that came with the foie gras & pancake. It did not compliment the dish at all and we were not a fan. Aside from that everything was wonderful, and they even brought out a scoop of chocolate sorbet for my birthday! We would definitely come back for brunch and really want to for dinner too.

Went here for a date night with my wife. Excellent and attentive service. Beef Wellington was the star but almost as impressed with the side of carrots. Would love to go back.

Service was inconsistent. Stellar by some not great by others. Menu was lacking. Granted we went for brunch but overall lack of option and creativity. Perhaps dinner menu stays more current.Raw bar was very limited with only two options to select from.

Nice ambience and delicious food but disappointed by the bartender: yesterday we were sitting at the bar and I asked for a cocktail I liked very much: Ramos Gin Fizz. Bartender said he would not prepare it because it takes too much work … expected more…

From the moment we walked through the door, we were enveloped in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, which made us feel right at home. The wine list is impressive, offering an exquisite selection that perfectly complements each dish. We started with an assortment of appetizers that tantalized our taste buds, each bite a discovery of flavors. The highlight of the evening was the main course, a perfectly cooked, melt-in-the-mouth prime rib accompanied by an assortment of seasonal vegetables, each more flavorful than the last. But what really sets Obélix apart is the quality of service. The staff are exceptionally attentive and caring, ensuring that every aspect of our evening was perfect. Their passion for food and guests' well-being is evident, and it adds a personal touch that makes the experience even more special. In conclusion, the Obélix restaurant is a true gastronomic pearl. Whether for the impeccable quality of its cuisine, the warm and welcoming atmosphere, or the excellence of its service, Obélix deserves all the praise. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience. I can not wait to return to!
