We had a wonderful lunch at Perilla - and had the great thrill of meeting one of the owners and creators of the restaurant -Thomas Oh. He was so friendly and helpful explaining the menu, the cuisine and the cultural underpinnings. My husband is gluten free — and there were many options — particularly because the kitchen only uses tamari rather than soy sauce. The bimibbop was fantastic- just the right amount of heat and the rice was crispy and so so tasty. We also had the Korean lunch tray - a sampling of skirt steak, soup, kimchi and other fermented vegetables with varying tastes — all delicious. To end the meal, the owner gave us a complimentary bowl of the most delicious chocolate gelato- the cocoa taste and texture were better than any gelato I had in Italy— go figure?? Have fun and try Perilla— you won’t be disappointed !!!!

The downtown steakhouse market is very competitive. Great food alone won't get you there. This place has great food - unique presentation with multiple small cuts to try a variety of steak types. But the service was lacking :
1. No Valet - even though the attached hotel offers valet - just not for the restaurant :(
2. Had to ask for serving utensils for multiple appetizers
3. Had to ask to replace plates between courses
4. Had to ask for new silverware when they finally cleared between courses
5. The dessert course was, honestly, weak. Highlighted a Perilla Sundae which was basically three small scoops of ice cream with whipped cream - disappointing.

The sister restaurant is amazing - this one is underwhelming. Also wasn't busy - which is explained by the lack of ooomph necessary to get business in this sector.

A 100% must if you’re going to be in Chicago. The steak melts in your mouth and is seasoned to perfection. Perillas was one of the first things we ate because our hotel room had a restaurant credit and easily was the best thing we ate during our entire trip. We ordered the Korean breakfast tray with grilled mackerel and added the Prime skirt steak. When we came back the following day, we ordered 3 extra servings of the prime skirt steak with the breakfast platter. 😚👌🏽 *Chefs Kiss*
Coming from another major city (SF) where we have excellent food options, it can sometimes be hard to impress. Don’t sleep on this restaurant because it’s in a hotel. I’ll be stopping in as often as I can the next time I’m there. How this restaurant doesn’t have a Michelin star yet is beyond me.
The desserts were also delicious and not too sweet!
The crew working there were so authentic and genuine, that it felt like we were catching up with old friends. Stellar crew!
Leslie was sweet, knowledgeable, helpful, and an absolute delight.
Santiago has worked there for over 20 years of his life (if my memory serves me) and was an absolute professional. Knowledgeable and very kind.
Abigail was also really nice and attentive!

Came for iberico ham. They dont have it anymore. Ordered 3 different cuts. Only the A5 was great. Everything else was very medicore. Was expecting the 60 day dry age ribeye to be beefy. It did not at all. Did not taste like it was aged either. Very disappointed in the food quality.

Service was great.
Ambiance still great.

The service and ambiance were excellent. The food was also very very good... I just expected a little more for the price... but it is downtown Chicago, so maybe that is to be expected?

One of the top meals we’ve had in Chicago! The food was amazing and the service was spectacular! As a cherry on top, we learned the story behind how Perilla came to be from Executive Chef Lim, which was heartwarming and touching — a ton of care and intentionality has been poured into this restaurant and the leadership cares deeply for their guests! Definitely give it a try!

For people who have no idea what Korean barbecue should be served. Under the pretention of “fused” Korean food, it gives poor experience of what good Korean food, service and hospitality should be !!!
Our server Edson after the soccer player Pepe was the only redeeming feature about unnecessarily expensive experience!!!

I’m Korean and usually prefer bland food. But their lunch set was too bland, I honestly felt like they had forgotten to season at all. So I asked the waitress about it, and she came back to say that the chefs hadn’t made any mistakes and it’s supposed to be like that. Quite a shocking and arrogant response -could have just offered salt. I was just like okay..and kept eating. Honestly, I cook better and more authentic Korean food than this, and I’m not a good cook. Not worth the money. Very basic.
