This place is sadly overcrowded and overpriced. The pastry is very good, but the service is lacking. I brought an international visitor here and they forgot to call his name for the order, no apologies, nothing. I think people only come here because it's the only option besides a small starbucks counter nearby...

I came here to work & use my laptop. Waited 20+ min to order in line for them to tell me the WiFi isn’t working. Pretty surprised they don’t have a sign or anything since this is next to a university. My oat latte and almond croissant were amazing. The chef salad was just okay, not something I would ever get again.

Service was very quick.

Eating outside was a good idea until me and my food got swarmed by yellow jackets. Just something to consider if you plan to eat outside.

I’m not sure the rage about this place, considering the prices - but maybe you have to order the right thing.

Great spot, especially when the weather is nice and you can spend time outside. Inside it feels a little crowded and maybe too busy to really relax into a groove of working or reading. The line wraps around past most of the tables.

Cute little cafe right outside the University of Chicago. The line was a little long, and there's not a ton of seating, but the food was good.

Great place for a croissant sandwich and chiche. Didn’t like the coffee tho but highly recommended.

This hidden gem serves the Campus of the University of Chicago and those of us who come in off the street! My parents (both 81) and I came in for lunch. We couldn’t find it at first, but a nice young man happily told us where it was. Inside one of the campus buildings.

We had croissant sandwiches, with side salads and Topo Chico. There was beautiful outdoor seat - most of which was all ready bustling with interesting people (great people watching) enjoying the beautiful weather, wine and fellowship with a beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright house (I believe) right next to them.

Their coffee is amazing. I love that they give it in real mugs instead of disposable cups. The outdoor patio is so cute. Staff could be a bit more friendly. There also is no WiFi.

really overrated coffee shop. The drinks are fine but nothing special, and the food is too pricy for its quality. Almost impossible to get a seat in the winter

Recommended by the nearby museum staff member, my colleagues and I stood in a long line to order lunch. It was a little rough to be sure we found the right menu. The ones online are a little different from what's there. But, arguably, it could be that they are picking fresh ingredients. The pastries, when arriving at the order window, looked great. But, by then, I determined to get something listed on the menu. I had the meatloaf terrine. It was hearty and delicious and I can understand for Chicago's weather, why it is a staple. Plein Air is excellent and U Chicago is lucky to have Plein Air on campus.
