This place has an excellent selection of food, drinks, and dessert. There is also a buffet option. It’s located within the hospital so you don’t need to walk outside to get to it from within the hospital or academic buildings. However, this place requires a membership or an invitation to be seated.

Private club/restaurant found interestingly enough inside Rush University Medical Center of all places. This has got to be the first time I've heard of a restaurant within a hospital let alone dined at one. It was hyped up a lot to be the best eatery in the hospital so naturally I was curious and excited to check it out. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 8/10 Notably very fancy looking on the inside and kind of a shock that this exists in the middle of a hospital. It would be hard to tell that you were walking inside a hospital if you didn't know it. There is a large amount of seating here, probably enough for 80+. SERVICE : 7/10 Servers were nice and approachable, although some were not as knowledgeable about menu options, but overall it was satisfactory. FOOD: 8/10 The food here was very impressive, especially given the bad reputation that hospital food tends to get. The day I was there the theme of the day was Thanksgiving, which is fine by me since I enjoy Thanksgiving food. Turkey - This was just thin slices of turkey breast laid over the stuffing. It was good but not that flavorful. Stuffing - This combined with the gravy was incredibly moist and easily the best part about the entree platter. It was seasoned perfectly and carried the turkey. Mashed Potatoes - Pretty standard mashed potatoes. Green Beans - A little undercooked in my opinion but seasoned well. Apple Pie - This was made in almost a flower shape so it was mostly crust with a little bit of apple pie filling in the center. The pie was good but the crust to filling ratio was off. Tiramisu - This was a solid dessert item. The cake was moist and it was not too sweet. I would recommend this item. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 7/10 Worth a try if I'm ever here again. TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT: If you're in Rush University Medical Center, you might as well check this place out. OVERALL: 7/10

This place is the best place to eat at Rush Medical Center, according to the staff. The lunch buffet is quite decent with a comprehensive salad bar, including crudités/olives, hot entrees (hoisin glazed ribs and curry white fish when I went), a carving station with corned beef and turkey, and soup. The seasoned entrees were all a bit salty. The coffee, roasted by Intelligentsia, was delicious. Overall a good place to visit for an occasion.

Room 500 is an unusual type of place (at least for anything else I have seen in Chicago): it isn't really advertised outside Rush University since 't is a "private club" which you have to join with a membership. For those of us that work there, the place is mainly know for special events: here is where I had a residency interview luncheon, helped host lunches for future recruits, played in hospital talent shows, and this year, our Neurology residents celebrate graduation from here. They also cater the several conference rooms for the hospital. While there is a menu, I usually have done the buffet table, which is generally good in quality; the Friday dessert buffet is egregiously excessive! I don't go out of my way to come here unless there is a meeting or event since it seems mostly a sit down place for people that have the time to eat a long lunch (administrators etc) or wine/dine type events. The decor is unimpressive with big empty spaces and retro (i.e. old) wall art panels that have a pseudo-cafeteria feel. The only problem i have with the food is that the selections don't really change all that much with time, particularly the catered meals, which have dulled my palate with their repetitive combinations over several years.

The Veggie Burger is amazing! They give you half an avocado with it. :)
