Walked in a Sunday with a party of 7 and put our name in. The 50 something year old woman with jet black hair took our name and party number down. Forty minutes later we went to see how much longer and she states “Sorry, never had your name in”. Egregiously bad service. I am absolutely appalled by wasting all of our valuable time, especially on the weekend. Also from Michigan and this would be completely unacceptable in most cities but clearly the work ethic of Sam and George’s of Chicago is a joke.

I've been a loyal patron of this place for practically my whole life, starting around 1980. The food here never disappoints, always delicious and consistently good with a massive range of offerings from the expected breakfast and diner sandwiches to my favorite 30 different skillets. And, their coffee is far from the usual diluted fare or overpriced options.It's a family-owned gem, run by folks who are straightforward, sensible, warm, and smart. The quality of their food, the service remains consistently high. They are always courteous and a pleasure to interact with, many having cultivated their own dedicated customer base within the community.

This is an example of an incredible American diner experience. The food is hot and greasy, and there is a lot of it, just like I remember from family outings as a kid. The skillets are incredible, and the omelets are just the same. It's not high-class food, but it's incredible comfort food. I will be going back again and again. Be sure to check out the pie and cupcakes in the display as you walk in.This is definitely a family-friendly establishment.
