Terrible customer service and terrible management. I ordered via their website which has an order button. Even though the order was via their website, they decided to not honor the order and not refund the money.
They are choosing to not serve customers in their own internal battle with their service providers.
Management was rude and did not care about the fault of their own website.

Perfect veggie combo! I love that they even have beets at this location. One of my favorites next to collards.

Selam Ethiopian Kitchen is the best Ethiopian in town! From the moment I walked in, the friendly staff made me feel like I was in for something special. And I was right!

I ordered the meat platter for me and my dining companion, and it was absolutely fantastic. Each dish was perfectly spiced. The star of the night, though, was the Zilzil Tibs. The juicy, perfectly grilled strips of beef, sautéed with onions and peppers, were an explosion of flavor – hands down one of the best beef dishes I’ve ever had!

The portions were generous, and the injera served alongside everything was soft, tangy, and the perfect accompaniment. If you're new to Ethiopian cuisine, the meat platter and Zilzil Tibs are absolute must-tries!

I can’t recommend this place enough – I’ll definitely be back!

This was my first time ordering from Selam. I got the Meat Sampler and it was soooo good. I love all the Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurants in Chicago but this one hits different! You won’t be disappointed!

I’ve been ordering pickup from Selam for 5 years at this point, and I can tell you they make the best Ethiopian food in Chicago (I’ve tasted all of the others). The goden tibs (grilled steak), kitfo (ground beef), gomen (collard greens), and timatim fitfit (fresh salad with seasoned tomatoes, onions, and peppers) are outstanding. To top it off, the owners, Selam and Solomon, always take time to chat with me each time I pick up my order—they are super sweet.

I visited this restaurant last week and had a disappointing experience. The Coke and Diet Cokes we ordered were warm and flat, with the Diet Cokes being expired. When we informed the server, he did not address the issue, and the owner dismissed our concerns without offering an apology. The food was underwhelming, and the injera was overly thick and unappetizing. Overall, it was the worst Ethiopian dining experience I've had, and I hope they improve their service and food quality.

Best Ethiopian place I’ve been to in the city with a super sweet staff. Coming here should be on everyone’s list when in uptown!

We had an event on the second floor, with about 150 international guests. The food and service were all spectacular. The owner was a total gentleman and good for his word. There was plenty of excellent food and we would go back in a heartbeat!?

the food here was delicious! super fresh, super tangy injira. it’s not a very aesthetically appealing restaurant, to be fair. it’s a bit dingy and could use some cleaning and updates. but, the food was tasty enough that i would return!

This was my first time at an Ethiopian restaurant, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I was very happy that there was a trial meal that had a couple of different items that we ended up getting. The only downside was that there was pretty much only one server, which at the beginning was fine as it was pretty quiet, though once things started to pick up, it was hard to get service.

Went for lunch and ate the meat sampler platter for 2 with traditional Ethiopian, fresh roasted coffee. The coffee was the most flavorful and delicious cup I have ever had served in a beautiful decanter. The food was all made from scratch and had such amazing spices and the owner explained how all the spices were brought over from Ethiopia and cooked by his wife. Everything tasted so good together. I only wish my stomach was larger so I could have finished the entire platter. The “platter for 2” was big enough for at least 3 hungry people. So the portion size was very fair. Definitely will come back!
