Gorgeous food in a lovely ambience outside on the terrace. Attentive friendly service and great wines. Second time here (first was 15 years ago) and it was as good this time as it was then! Cannot speak highly enough of the overall experience.

The staff and food was absolutely excellent. We had the sea bass as our main entree and it was cooked to perfection.

The staff were wonderful and the atmosphere quite nice. My favorite part of the meal was dessert. It was one of the best I've ever had. A mango tapioca with coconut cream. Glad we ended on that dish. The pork dim sum, veggie stir fry, and beef tenderloin were very good. We had an appetizer with puffed rice (messy) that we wouldn't recommend. The tofu was rather hard and it seemed like there was an element missing, maybe a sauce, that could have brought the flavors together. I'm glad we tried it.

Wonderful service and incredible food. The staff is extremely helpful, attentive, and kind - especially our primary server Elmir. He gave us great recommendations and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Overall an excellent experience.

Incredible dim sum flavor and quality. Extraordinary restaurant. The house mango pudding was outstanding as well; delicate and not too sweet. Loved it

We were so excited to dine inside of the restaurant for our last anniversary before getting married, and we were sat in the hotels lobby, which was awkward and silent. We should've at least been notified we would not be able to sit in the restaurant. It also took us about 45 minutes of waiting to get a cocktail. We left after our first drink.

Great great food. Were given a table in lobby area. They were definitely short staffed this time around. Waiter was kind but clearly stressed. Took a long time to place orders and receive drinks and food.

The food/service/outdoor area--all of it is always perfect! Mom loves the duck/my sister the lobster/me the abalone... Top spot in Chicago for Chinese food--by far-please keep it up

Service is spot on! I wish every restaurant could have this staff as they truly are so personable and make you feel at home! Peipot (sure I am not spelling this correctly) is a star! The ambience is fabulous, too, although we always seem to come on rainy days and want to enjoy that stellar patio more often. As for the food, yes it is expensive but worth it to spend more on a great experience! We loved the crab shumai and shredded duck dish. It's refreshing to have Chinese that is not overly drowning in sauce and sodium. The fresh vegetables stand out!

Shanghai Terrace delivers a seamless blend of elegance and flavor, tucked above the city with a stunning skyline view that sets the tone for a memorable evening. Each dish is a refined take on classic Chinese cuisine—beautifully presented and bursting with layered, balanced flavors. The service is attentive, adding to the calm, luxurious ambiance. It's the kind of place where time slows down, and every detail feels just right.

Wonderful experience! Attentive and courteous service too. Ordered Peking Duck, and dimsum siew mai and pork dumplings, and for dessert Mango Tapioca, all delicious.

As the world is changing and we being watch on cruelty on animals. Many are converting to vegetarian and vegan. The vegetarian definition, having eggs is strange because vegetarian is not eggs, would request to add more vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Overall level of food quality has gone down considerably. Used to be one of our favs in Chicago, now just “meh”.

We had a delicious meal of Peking Duck and Kung Pao chicken. Very attentive service. We loved our time at Shanghai Terrace!

One of the very best restaurants in Chicago, with a fabulous outdoor terrace, if the weather is nice. If not, seating on the main level of the lobby is quiet and spacious, although the restaurant itself is a typical dining room experience (although it has a very nice Asian feel). Service is the best in the city; probably one of the best dining experiences in the country. This is a fantastic restaurant which we book every time we are in Chicago — why go anywhere else when this is the best! P.S. the Shredded Duck with Vegetables (one of the house specialties) is just SO good!!!
