I felt like I was dining at a preschool, so many loud children at one table that others had to asked to be moved. The wait staff should have asked the adults to not have their children singing and using chopsticks as drumsticks.

Food was amazing, the lobsters rolls and the Peking duck are a must! Smokey cocktail was great as well. The mango pudin is out of this world ✨✨ the attention is impeccable. Since it was my anniversary I was expecting like a dessert with a candle or something hehe but everything else was fantastic.

Just a Great Restaurant that continues to impress over the years! Food, drinks, service, ambience... Checks All the boxes! In the dining room they kept the classic low ceilings and carpet to absorb the sounds Thank God!!! They haven't caved to the all hard surface echo chambers reminiscent of your HS cafeteria that so many places have gone to! Peking Duck service is Amazing! Eggplant dish, exceptional! Seafood Fried Rice order it Dry. Without the sauce. So clean, & fresh! Can't say enough. Love this place! Keep it up! Thank You for what you do!

I thought this was one of the best Chinese restaurant experiences I've had in the states. I say that after moving here from San Francisco where the Chinese food was taken very seriously; this is on par or better

I have coming to Shanghai Terrace for over a decade. It has been a component of every one of my trips to Chicago for a very long time. But today’s visit will be my last.

I was unpleasantly surprised from the outset with the ambiguous and confused “Lobby seating.” If we wanted to sit in a nearly empty and sterile room that was serving high tea or breakfast buffet, the setting was actually perfect for that. “Lobby seating” at Shanghai Terrace is no different than getting takeout from the restaurant and eating it in an empty room like room service. The only remote faint attempt to make you feel like you are in the actual restaurant is a fancy chopstick stand. As another patron said on OpenTable (and it is our fault for not reading the reviews), the Lobby is an “after thought.”

But what takes the cake? The service was absent too. My wife and I sat down and after 35 minutes we got water service and menus. There was no attempt to serve us drinks or take our order. You may say, if you don’t like the decor and service then you don’t have to be there. And we completely agree, we voted with our feet and left as our dinner was becoming a comedy. It is upsetting to me, I used to love this place.

The food was good, service was average. I know this is the Peninsula, however, the prices were crazy expensive. $46 for an average portion of sweet and sour pork. I can't justify these prices to bring me back. $25 for a cocktail.

One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. The lobster dish and noodles (cannot remember the name of the noodle dish, but it is the only noodle dish listed under the “rice and noodles” section near bottom of menu) are my favorite. Perfect place to dine with your loved one or best friends. MAKE RESERVATIONS WAY IN ADVANCE!

Max was an incredible host and server. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and cultivated an understanding experience. Thank you.

Nancy

Service was slow & could be improved Wasn't up to the standards we expected of the Peninsula or what we experienced the last time we dined there.
