Always a great time at SP! The food is delicious and the drinks were so good that after our meal we sat at the bar and had another.

I am a Chicago native, and enjoyed visiting Soul Prime for dinner during Chicago Black Restaurant Week. From the moment my group entered, we were greeted by the staff with smiles and the utmost professionalism. We were promptly seated, and our server was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu items. We tried the following opening acts: - Short Rib Street Tacos (very flavorful, although a little salty) - Fried Green Tomatoes (sliced nicely and the batter was delicious and well balanced) - Lobster Bisque Puff Pastry (CBRW menu - this was easily my highlight of the night! The bisque was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the puff pastry was light and flaky) The following mains were ordered: - Spicy Honey Bourbon Fried Chicken (great crunch and portions! The spicy honey bourbon sauce was the start of the show here - do yourself a favor and ask for an extra side) - Smothered Pork Chops (juicy, tender, and the gravy had a balanced flavor) - Blackened Catfish (the catfish was good, but the star of the show was the creamy southern grits with creole seafood sauce - they were perfectly cooked with great flavor!) The following sides were ordered: - Mixed Cajun Greens (they were cooked well and had great flavor, but were too salty to enjoy in its entirety) - Five Cheese Baked Mac (some of the best restaurant Mac n cheese I've had - very creamy and mild cheese flavor) - Sweet Potatoes (perfectly cooked and sweetened; they also pair nicely with the honey cornbread muffins) Lastly, the drinks were solid. We tried the Summer Spritz, Baobab Pineapple Gimlet, Granddaddy's Tea, Strawberry Margarita, and Peach Sidecar. All in all we had a good experience. Our only con was the length of time waiting for food. Our dinner reservation was at 5:45pm, and we didn't leave until 9:45pm. Would definitely return to try other items!

Had an AMAZING EXPERIENCE. The bisque was AMAZING, Catfish and Fried Chicken dinners were also fantastic. Chef Royce (owner ) stopped out to ask how we liked the meal. Talking to her was fantastic. The service was 1st class and this will be our “go to” spot especially when we have visitors from out of town. Neighborhood gem.

I can't say I enjoyed anything that I ordered. The food was not good and overpriced. The drinks were not good and overpriced as will. The service was just okay. I'm disappointed.

Some of the best food I've had and I'm from Houston where's there's a good food place within every 10 miles. Loved the service and Karen and Unique! They were a great beginning to my weekend. Definitely coming back

Miss Irresistable

The food was made to perfection. I went here with 2 of my friends for a girls day and Karen was our waitress and her service was so welcoming. I ordered the firecracker shrimp as my appetizer, 290, Mac n cheese and sweet potatoes and everything was made fresh and was hot in temperature! The lavender lemon drop was on point too! Loved the ambience and the music was on point as well. Highly recommend, 10/10!🙌🏾

My husband and I booked this reservation for brunch last minute. We had previously seen a video on Instagram praising the deliciousness of Soul Prime. Let me just say, we can confirm that the food is absolutely delicious. The catfish and grits as well as the collard greens are a must! This is true soul food - it touches your heart and makes you think about eating your grandma's cooking. Would definitely recommend.

Get down to Soul Prime and experience Chef Royce and her incredible team. From the moment we walked through the door on one of the coldest days of the year, we were warmly greeted and seated—immediately wrapped in the essence of what Soul Prime represents.
I ordered The Chi (catfish with meat spaghetti) 8/10, the cornbread muffin was a perfect 10/10, and my fiancée had the honey bourbon fried chicken—an easy 10+/10—paired with sweet potatoes 9/10. The short rib tacos were a solid 10/10, especially when paired with two well-balanced cocktails: The Foyer and Granddad’s Tea, both excellent on the palate. We ended the evening with the banana pudding, which was comforting, nostalgic, and soul-warming.
Chef Royce truly stole the show by taking the time to personally greet us and sit down to talk about her food—and even listen to my feedback. I’m a tough critic, having eaten this style of food my entire life, and Soul Prime has developed something special that can appeal to a wide range of palates.
Overall, I give the experience 4.5/5 stars. This was a wonderful date night, and I’d love to see Soul Prime continue to develop and elevate the overall experience. A once-a-week test kitchen special on a slower day would be incredible—I want to experience all the layers of Chef Royce’s creativity.
Some small touches that could take the experience to the next level:
Tablecloths and dimmer lighting during dinner hours (especially with the table lamps)
No chipped plates
Higher-quality cutlery (the plastic-handled steak knife stood out)
Servers speaking confidently and passionately about the concise menu—food is art, and the language used should make us fall in love before the first bite
Half of how food tastes is how the staff makes you feel. These details would truly speak to the Prime in Soul Prime—where genuine hospitality meets superior culinary artistry.
Job well done. We can’t wait to come back and see you again.
