My husband and I are Louisiana transplants. This cafe offers great Louisiana food and atmosphere, combined with locally sourced ingredients and and sustainable practices. I had their decaf drip coffee which was so good. My husband has the Boudreaux breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel which had great boudin flavor! I had the cheesy grits with scallions and chile crunch. The consistency was closer to polenta than grits, but that isn't a complaint. They were delicious and filling.
We took home a quart of their chicken and andouille gumbo and can't wait to try it.
We'll definitely be back and can't wait to bring it family and friends here!

Definitely a spot your tastebuds want to visit. Great sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. Gluten free pastry options. Excellent service. A friendly neighborhood joint if there ever was one.

Workers are friendly. The business is a bit off though, no to go coffee cups and it’s slow despite being at the Montrose stop. It’s generally a bit overpriced for what you get.

Spoken is such a special coffee shop that cares about the environment. They adopted sustainable practices and customers must bring their own mugs. They also have gluten free pastry options which is always a plus for me!

I recently had family bring down multiple gluten-free delights from spoken in Chicago. I must say I have never had any gluten-free food that had tasted so amazing. I felt compelled to share it with a few other others that share my condition and we all agree. This place is A number one.

My hope is that someday they choose to ship or build a location in Florida because I was overwhelmed with joy eating their tasty treats! Thanks for all of your hard work Spoken, You are truly a Diamond in the rough!

The eclairs, the muffins, the cookies the poundcake you name it, it’s all fabulous!

Such a lovely cozy coffee shop where you can also find pottery and paintings from local artists.

They do not have disposables (except from compostable cutlery) so you’d have to bring a reusable mug and container if you’re ordering to take out.

The place will be busy, but the food is great, and the staff super friendly. I appreciate the minimal packaging on takeout orders.

I won’t be back.

Ordered four shots. It came in two separate cups. Weird, especially considering they are so big on unnecessary waste, but no biggie.

When I asked about it they said the order was put in as two double shots which is fine. I went to pour one into the other when the lady making drinks today yanked one back in a weird way like she was annoyed or inconvenienced. I didn’t think much of it. Meanwhile, the guy who took the order had some downtime so he added some straws or utensils in the area people add cream but didn’t check to see if the carafe was empty and needed to be replaced.

I went to add cream and ended up using the last of it. Again, no biggie. I brought the carafe back to the lady and asked if she had a replacement so I could put a fresh one back in the communal area where people add cream. Figured I would be nice.

She handed me the actual plastic bottle of cream rather than a fresh carafe or adding some more to the carafe I handed her. She seemed very annoyed. She hasn’t said a word, smiled, or really engaged even once at this point other than slamming the cream down when I asked if she had a replacement.

Like a decent person, I put the plastic bottle of cream she handed me back where others could use it. When I was leaving, she stormed over and angrily slapped her hand onto the top of the bottle and grabbed the cream to take it back behind the bar. The odd part is she meanmugged me like I did something wrong. Like a real angry look of disgust and disapproval.

Maybe she wanted me to use it right there at the bar and give it back but I had already added the cream I needed and was just trying to help her out. Again, she never actually talked to me.

As I walked out the door, I looked back, and she gave me a super angry stare again. Chill out! Sheesh!

Not sure if it was just miscommunication since she didn’t ever talk to me or she was having a bad day or what.

While walking home, my partner who never added any cream to their drink, opened their drink and saw that the inside of the lid to their drink had old cream stuck to it. Gross. This was in one of their reusable library cups. They don’t seem to be cleaned. Double gross.

I won’t be back and I will let others know about the mean lady there and the not-so-clean lid.

The employees could use some remedial training to put orders in more efficiently, keep the cream topped off, clean their cups properly, and to use their words when communicating with customers rather than slamming things and being mean.

Oh, and get rid of the huge rack of swag in the middle of the shop so people have some room. It is a tiny shop with an unnecessarily large shelving unit holding a couple bags of coffee and t shirts. What is that about?

Disappointed…Ordered the biscuit breakfast sandwich with bacon and what I got was a dry, biscuit with tasteless liquid eggs from a carton, and three measly bits of overcooked bacon. For $16, this was definitely not worth the price..

I'm kicking myself for having slept on this place for too long. I've been coming in semi-regularly for the last few months for coffee, bagels, and sometimes donuts before my morning commute. Always delicious, staff is always friendly, and I enjoy the atmosphere. I recommend bringing your own mug if you're getting coffee to-go because they're actively trying to minimize waste. Love that this place is in my neighborhood.
