This is my second time visiting Ssyal, the food quality was great so I found myself craving the food here again in my next visit to Chicago. I finally got to try their signature samgyetang dish, which was so hearty, nutritious and comforting with a deep rich flavor profile. My partner ordered the chicken kalguksu and loved the simple, delicious, 담백한 flavor. The banchan are all great and fresh as well!

As a Korean, I attest that the food is authentic and delicious. Clean and authentic Korean vibe. Great side dishes and kimchi as well.

Food was solid, about the only positive thing I have to say about this place. Unfortunately the server working there was very rude to not only me but my parents which ultimately inspired me to write a google review of a place for the first time.

Coming from Korea, I am very used to quick, almost brash service in Korean restaurants. What I am not a fan of is when a server purposefully neglects service to a customer and decides to take a meal break in the middle of serving my food and doesn’t allow me to order anything else or even pay for my food when she is eating.

I am all for restaurant employees getting a meal break — they absolutely deserve to eat. But there was no mentioning or any sign indicating the server was going on a break. When I tried to ask for something she says “are you seriously going to asking me for something while I’m on my meal break?” (In Korean)

If that is the case, then why was I handed a menu after I had asked to order another item? After she gave me her rude response, I asked for the check and she reluctantly got up and gave our table the bill. I didn’t appreciate the side eyes the server was giving my parents, who had been nothing but kind to her during our time. Disappointing ending to our meal.

So so disappointed. TLDR look elsewhere for Korean food.

Arrived from out of town and needed some Korean food and this place was rated really high. Pros: there’s a parking lot for 4 cars out back. The place was relatively clean. Clean bathrooms.

Food was mediocre at best. We’ve eaten at tons of Korean restaurants throughout the world and I can’t even say this was mid. And the price for the portions of food was robbery for the quality of food provided. Service was basically nonexistent. No water refill. No help when our kid spilled water. No one ever brought our bill.
