Racist Security and Ridiculous Entry Policy
We came to this bar on 11/22 at 8 PM as the first group of customers, and the security refused to let me in for the most absurd reason. He claimed my pants didn’t meet the dress code because they were “sweatpants.” In reality, I was wearing Favorite Daughter trousers—business wear that I regularly use in professional settings. When I tried to explain this, he completely ignored me, displayed an arrogant attitude, and dismissed my explanation outright.
It felt like he saw our Asian faces and decided we were easy targets for this kind of treatment. This behavior was not only rude but downright racist. I would never return to a place with such disrespectful and unprofessional staff. Avoid this bar at all costs.

Elvin, Elvin, Elvin! He is the absolute best host. If you want a fun night out at any age look no further. I love this place. I have been to the Bassment multiple times, and each time I feel very cared for and like a VIP! I recently went for a friend's birthday. There were 8 ladies and we walked in and were able to order drinks right away. Elvin made sure we took a photo in the phone booth and were taken care of. Live music and dancing I mean come on!!! The band even sang happy birthday! The band was so lively and we loved the rapper so much. I had a wonderful experience and will definitely go back! Thank you Elvin!

This place is fantastic! Brought my wife here to celebrate her 40th birthday. What a great vibe!!! Samantha was amazing and super attentive…never had to wait for a drink. As for the house band… absolutely off the chain!!!! We danced for hours! Definitely my new go to downtoen!

Bathroom women is extremely rude, she has short black/dark hair.. continually knocked on the door while I was using the restroom and said I needed to get out but I was literally in the toilet so I’m not sure what she expected me to do, she was extremely unhelpful and unkind she was older maybe in her late 30s or early 40s. I do not appreciate be rushed especially when using the restroom

I never leave reviews but that bouncer was rude right off the bat. He refused to let people pay covers individually and told us “I’m not doin individuals, you figure it out.” If you go here, just remember that the staff doesn’t serve you, you cater to their needs.

Walked in after dinner to enjoy some live music. By far this place exceeded my expectations. I was thinking it was going to be a sit down quiet-ish lounge, but instead it has all the vibes of that, but the energy of a busy club…in a good way. Small enough to not feel swamped in a crowd, but big enough to have plenty of space to move around and stand right in front of the band. The band was playing an eclectic mix of old school and 80s and we sang and dance the whole time. I wish we had this place back in DC, I can’t wait to come back! Make a reservation ahead of time on eventbrite for free entry!

Me and 15 other girls flew to Chicago for my bachelorette and The Bassment was our first night out. We were met with unbelievable service from the bouncers, to bartenders, as well as the manager. They made sure to take care of us and make sure we had a perfect night! The energy from the band was unmatched. We would all HIGHLY recommend!
