Old school German food in the heart of the loop. It is sufficiently old school that they have a separate menu for those observing lent. I had good fish.

This place was a fantastic find in Chicago! We got there around 4:30 and got right in, although it did fill up fast after 5. The server was very attentive, the plates were cleared promptly. Food was served quickly, and it was all fantastic. The building is beautiful, and it's a very interesting place to eat. A little high priced, but well worth it!

Had dinner last night and the traditional German plates at Chicago’s oldest restaurant were amazing. We were seated and ordered their Adams Street Brewery drinks and the bread basket appetizer which included their homemade rye bread. Our server, Marsha, was so attentive—a joy! My Veiner Schnitzel pan fried veal cutlet with creamed spinach over spatzle was delicious. Family had the sausage trio-bratwurst, knockwurst and smoked Thuringer, along with a side of sauerkraut. If you wish to dine be aware that they close at 8pm! Definitely will be back.

I have wanted to visit this restaurant since I was a kid, and yesterday I finally got to. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you have been transported to another time with the warm golden artwork and lighting. Definitely an amazing ambiance! The potato pancake appetizer was awesome, and so was the cedar plank salmon (cooked perfectly!). Beer selection was great, and tasted lovely as well. Our server was kind and attentive and we felt like we were regulars even though it was our first time visiting. We can't wait to visit again!

My favorite Chicago restaurant, been around for over 100 years, excellent German food, great atmosphere, woodwork n original paintings, they brew their own beer as well. If you've never been here you are missing out. If you park in the Adams Street parking garage, your server will validate your parking, it was only $17 for 1.5 hours or so.

This is my favorite airport restaurant. Whenever my wife and I go through ATL airport we eat here time permitting. The food superb. Perfectly cooked deli meats. Very tender and juicy. They also have a good beer list. Great airport atmosphere. Everything is made to order.
We have also eaten at their original downtown deli. Also superb.

The sausage trio was yummy, and so was the mustard. I was in a hurry to eat and the staff was very accommodating.

I hadn't been to the Berghoff in decades but wanted something different while staying for the weekend. I grew up in Chicago and dinner at the Berghoff was always a treat. The entire German dining feel has been lost. It's still mostly the same building other than the brewery, but that's about it. The staff clearly didn't embrace the concept of providing a German dining experience. Other than the name, menu, and building, I might as well have been in a Denny's. The Wienerschnitzel, chicken schnitzel, and Spätzle were mediocre. The meat was not properly flattened in the authentic style. The gravy was bland. I've eaten a lot of excellent German food in Germany. Frankly, I'm not sure how they stay in business. I was there at 7:00 PM and it was dead. Much of the staff was in the bar area chatting and watching TV. Unless something changes, I wouldn't return or recommend the Berghoff to friends. Very sad.
