The atmosphere in the dining rooms of this historic building and restaurant is amazing-- almost worth a meal here to experience it. That's good, because the food was just OK, and the staff seemed indifferent to whether or not we felt welcome and/or enjoyed ourselves. They have an extensive list of German-style beers, and the menu is similarly expansive. So lots to choose from. Between my wife and I we have only two meals on which to base this review, but neither was memorable or delicious. The giant soft pretzel was served hot and delicious. We had tried to come on Friday just after 5:00 pm, but it was already packed and with a 45-min wait for a table. So we came back for lunch on Sunday instead.
We went in for lunch for a birthday and to see Santa for the grandkids. We had appetizers, Rueben’s, and Roast beef sandwiches. Along with a side of red cabbage. Susan was our server and was absolute wonderful. The food was fantastic as always .
Always an after-concert treat. Food was prepared to order and very good. Special shout out to our server Susan who always takes good care of us. Happy Holidays!
The Berghoff continues to offer great food and service! We moved out of Chicago many years ago and this was our first time back in about 20 years. Same great place!
I come back to the Berghoff every time I'm in Chicago. It brings back great memories and creates new ones for friends who I introduce to this amazing Chicago landmark.
Berghoffs was just as outstanding as it has always been. Food, decorations , and service was as much as you could ask for. Plus prices were vey fair,
Excellent German food, the staff was very friendly and professional, we came twice because our hotel was only a few blocks away, thank you very much!
If you like authentic german food, this is the place to go. The bratwurst was excellent, and the chicken with spaetzle soup was simple but divine. The ambience was great and our server was very attentive. I am glad we decided to dine here and would definitely return.
Awesome restaurant, food and service! Soup was way too salty, otherwise all good. Apple strudel was great!
The food was decent, but not worth the price. Though I received my food right away, no one checked in to see if I enjoyed my meal or if I needed anything else. It was ten minutes before a waiter to notice I was finished. Once the waitress approached me, she didn't ask if I wanted to see the dessert menu. She, however, did ask the couple seated across from me. I felt unwelcome and will not return.

Berghoff was great! The decorations were on point as they are every single year, we love coming here all year round but you can't beat it during the Christmas season.
Good atmosphere. Good service. OK beer. Poor food. I had the game sausage platter that was flavorless. No spice. Spaetzele definitely homemade, but bland. I ate at the restaurant I would suggest that if you want to get an idea of the atmosphere, eat at the bar side. Same food, and they have sports in the TV
It is nice that this place still exists to give a historical ambiance. This is a place for casual dining. The food is competent, but unexciting. Lacking in spice, but it is German food? The spaetzele is obviously homemade, but bland. Affordable? Perhaps go to the adjacent pub to watch sports and eat the same food, instead.

The restaurant venue is really good and so is the location if you go downtown for a night.
However, waiter wasn’t the nicest and the food was super bland.
Someone needs to give Apollo a raise. He attended to 10 tables and made sure that I was well fed. I had all the perfect food recommendations, and he’s charismatic. Give this man a raise.
