Disappointed with menu and portions. I have been to many German restaurants and this is no where near being authentic. The ambiance is not German. When you have Mexican Food on the menu they have lost their identity. I expected better food and beer.

Food was good. Beef medallions were great. Fiancé didn't care for the pork being pan seared and not breaded for the Jagerschnitzle, but that's clearly stated on the menu. We made a reservation and were seated quickly. Lots of menu options to choose from. Service was slow, but polite. Took forever to get our drinks (fiancé literally walked to the car down the block to the parking garage because he forgot his phone and back and drinks still weren't served). I asked for a straw when we got the drinks and I finally received that halfway through with my meal. Validating parking was easy.

I had the Weiner Schnitzel. The other 3 diners with me all had various fish entrees. All entries were excellent

The potato pancakes stood out. The liver was too well done for me and I'll know to ask for it to be less done next time.

Server and busser were great. I tried a new dish and didn't really like it. Sides were very good. But that is a chance when you try something for the first time. Value for price was good.

Our waitress was wonderfull! However, the food was ok, but neither quality nor quanity was exceponal. This was dissapointing considering the restaurant's reputation and website. Dessert was pretty good, but didn't make up for the uninspired meal.

Better than I remember! It has been a while and while it's always been consistent, my group loved their meals. Great service and awesome array on the menu for vegetarians!

Great experience, delicious food , appetizers and desserts. I like the decor in old style . It’s very convenient location , just a few steps from the CTA blue line. German beer is great and a lot of cocktails to choose from. Our Polish waiter Krzys ( Chris ) was very nice and patient . Thank you

Atmosphere is great, if bavarian sing alongs and lederhosen tickle your fancy. Which they did, so that's good. Decent beer, nice atmosphere and service was OK. Toilet distance to rival a weatherspoons, but all in all a decent and amusing night out.

Very disappointing visit on the Chicago Open House weekend. A portion for an entree plate ($25) is barely enough for my 2 year old. Grilled Pork chop was just a slice of ham, not an actual pork chop, not even grilled.
Went in there for German Beer selection. If I knew all the beer was out, I wouldn’t have gone into dine in. Only notified the beer I ordered was out when the food was served. Picked different beer, still out. 3 kinds of beer I wanted were not available. Didn’t get water refilled not even once.
This restaurant charges 3.5% surcharge without giving an opt-out option. Didn’t get the beer, water or full belly after an entree dish! Very disappointing.

Extremely poor service. We went into the seat-yourself area, seated ourselves and waited for about ten minutes. The server saw us but literally neglected us even when I tried to wave at her and call her to help us get the menus for order. I am not sure if it was because our ethnicity or something else. I will never come back to this store again!

I was in town for the Chicago Marathon and this place was nearby and not packed. The food was solid overall and the craft soda was honestly fantastic. However, having an excessively loud polka band play during dinner is not ideal. You can't have a conversation and it gets headache-inducing really quick. The biggest downfall is the service though. They were pleasant and excellent until I had an issue. I ordered a burger medium-rare. It came to me still cold and entirely pink in the middle to the point that I could see the threads of grinded raw meet individually. I asked to have it exchanged for medium to fix the situation and was met with scowls and huffing and puffing along with "well that's what you ordered". No, I ordered a cooked burger, not food poisoning. The demeanor changed entirely to the point that the server stopped coming to our table and someone else came by just once to drop off the check and get once to get payment. It has so much potential but sadly falls flat.

We stumbled upon The Berghoff after I searched for the oldest restaurant in Chicago and I was pleasantly surprised that it was a German restaurant. I come from a strong German family history so there was a lot of nostalgia in the awesome dishes we had. Our server was awesome and very helpful. I can't put into words how great this restaurant is.
