We had some very nice snacks and drinks here!
We tried the Red Lion pilsner and Goose Island IPA, which were really nice. There were some good deals at the happy hour too.
Then there was really nice live music.
It was a great place to sit, nice options for drinks, helpful service, and all around great atmosphere! Would come again.

Authentic English Pub with a Midwestern flair.
Lots of tasty English beers on tap as well as delicious English inspired food options (yes, E English food can be delicious). The ower--who can often be found working! behind the bar--takes many cues from his father's time having fought in WWII and the English Pub feel is very real. Great spot for a pint and a spot of grub.

Best pub in the city. Warm atmosphere, food is great, wide variety of beverages, and the barman is top-notch. I make it a point to stop by the Red Lion Pub every time I’m in town.
Very nice welcoming venue with premium food offerings for a pub setting.
We really enjoyed our initial visit, have returned a few times and are already scheduled to return soon.
Red Lion Pub has easily become one of my favorite spots in Chicago. It’s the atmosphere that gets you first. No blaring music, no TVs competing for attention, just the warm glow of chandelier lighting and high ceilings that make you want to settle in, cozy up, order a pint next to the fireplace, and actually talk to the person next to you. It’s one of the few bars where I feel just as comfortable bringing my laptop to get some work done as I do striking up a conversation with a random person; the vibe encourages both without ever feeling forced.
Plus, decor gives the place even more character. The World War I and II memorabilia isn’t just thrown up for effect. It feels intentional and carefully preserved, and it gives the room a sense of history that pulls you into a quieter, older world for a while. Between the framed photos, hand-written notes from old generals, and the worn-in details, it all comes together in a way that feels authentic rather than themed.
The people behind the bar are a big part of why I keep returning. Colin, the owner, has a way of sharing stories from his own life and his father’s service that makes the place feel personal. His son, Jack, can turn even a slow night into something fun with his sense of humor, and the rest of the staff bring that same blend of warmth and personality. It’s the kind of bar where you actually remember the bartenders because they make the place better.
And as someone who has worked through most of the menu, my favorite dish is easily the bangers and mash. Simple, hearty, and done right every time, it pairs perfectly with the whole atmosphere of the pub.
All in all, Red Lion Pub is just a genuinely wonderful place to spend time. Whether I’m relaxing with a beer, chatting with someone new, or settling in with my laptop, it always feels like the right choice. It’s one of my favorite spots in the city for a reason.

This place is fantastic! It has a great homey atmosphere full of WWI and WWII memorabilia. The owner Colin is a true host, and sat with us for a little while telling us stories of his Dad who served and other historical fun facts and events. We could have sat there and picked his brain all night!
The food was also next level. I highly recommend getting the Scotch Egg appetizer for the table. It’s two eggs cut into 4 portions, with bruschetta and a salad. I also got the house special they were serving that night which was the beef stew in a red wine sauce over mashed potatoes. My only critique is that the bowl it came in could have been a little bigger, as I licked it clean wanting more lol. My mom and her friend both got the Shepherds Pie and loved it. For dessert we ordered a bread pudding for the table. I’m usually not a bread pudding guy, but it was lighter yet packed with flavor covered in a caramel drizzle.
If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind pub with great service and food, look no further. Come to The Red Lion Pub.

Red Lion Pub is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. Owner Colin and manager Jake is very nice. The restaurant is in good condition. Amazing fish and chips. Must come back. 10/10.
The Red Lion is the best of an English pub in Chicago. They have an excellent selection of beers on tap as well as a great selection of whiskeys. The service is outstanding. Also, the food is very good. The Red Lion is the best blend of a Chicago bar and an English pub.

Authentic shepherd's pie and bangers and mash, good service, and a good selection of British ales on draft. The bread pudding was fabulous.
18 months later, the Red Lion seems to be thriving. The dinner menu now includes salmon and a delicious casoulet. The draught beer menu has also expanded and includes Fuller's ESB and some other Engish imports. They still serve a tasty, authentic bread pudding. The portion sizes are reasonable, so dessert is a rational finishing touch.
Another year gone by, and there seem to be several empty storefronts on their block on Lincoln Ave. There are also signs of renovation. In any case, the pub is alive and well.
