My first trip to Chicago and I wanted to see the old Marshall Fields store and order their chicken pot pie in the Walnut Room, which was delicious! Annette, my server, was friendly and helpful with my every need. Highly recommend this step back into history. I loved it.

The Walnut Room doesn't disappoint. The waiters are very friendly and accommodating. it is a nice place to dine because it has a quiet atmosphere that allows for uninterrupted conversations. The Menu provides a nice variety of food options and the Prosecco is light and enjoyable!

We had such a wonderful experience! My parents would always bring me here at Christmas every year when I was little. The chicken pot pie and french onion soup were superb! Thank you for the nostalgic experience.

Group of former work colleagues--first 4, then 5, now 6--relish the chance to gather from time to time in an elegant space with fine inner Loop views, splendid service, and delicious food and drink that are reasonably priced, all at a location that's easy to reach from every part of the Chicago area by car or transit. No other place fits the bill. This tradition will continue.

Although very quiet for a Friday night, we had a window seat and a lovely waitress. The fresh fruit was delicious and so were the mashed potatoes. It has a real old fashioned “throw back” vibe . Very unique spot.

A hidden gem for Chicago, a real treat from a bygone age - it's like a time warp back to the golden age of department store restaurants. Excellent food in a really beautiful old, authentic great dining room with views of the Chicago Loop. The food was excellent and the portions generous, prices were also very reasonable. Highly recommended.

Why would I eat anywhere else when I'm downtown? Great menu. Great staff. Great ambiance. Great history.

Swing by The Walnut Room on State Street—grabbed the famous Mrs. Hering’s chicken pot pie and a petite Caesar salad, rang up about $20. The pot pie was piping hot and comforting, solid portion, and the salad was crisp. Love the classic wood-paneled digs and chandeliers—totally nostalgic vibe. Food's good, not mind-blowing, but worth it for that old-school Chicago charm.

The food is fantastic however I have to say the atmosphere takes the top spot.

In the heart of Chicago... On the 7th floor of Macy's is the Walnut room. The charcuterie board is decadent.... The expresso martini was smooth and delicious.... The wedge salad was perfect.

I ordered the salmon but I have to say I wasn't really crazy about the risotto... But that's my fault cuz I'm not really sure what risotto is half the time..

The waiter was attentive and had perfect timing.

This is a go to place for taking a good friend out or meeting with family for a special occasion.

Made a reservation on 5/17/2025 to eat at The Walnut Room on 5/20/2025 at noon. At 11:37AM on 5/20/2025 -- yes...that's 23 minutes before my reservation, I received an email informing me that they cancelled my reservation as they were having a private event. That's COMPLETELY UNSATISFACTORY customer service!

I was shopping in Macy’s recently and decided to take a break and check out the Walnut Room. I was served by Curtis. He exudes hospitality and told me all about the Walnut Room and its heartwarming qualities for Chicago. What a delight to receive 5 star service at the Walnut Room.

The Walnut Room is a gorgeous place. Puzzled why it is semi-empty every time we've gone to lunch or dinner, as the ambience, food and service are top notch and prices are very reasonable.

.Last night we went to a 7pm performance at the Auditorium Theater, and it was the perfect venue for an early dinner ~ beautiful and light-filled, Vince was our server and took care of every need with style and humor.
My husband had the Walnut Room Club Sandwich (delicious, with perfectly crispy and well-seasoned fried PLUS a side of thumb's up coleslaw), and I had the chicken pot pie which came with a lovely, sweet side salad. Perfection! We split a bowl of very tastey pozole, all while gazing out at a supersized mural of Muddy Waters.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
