Friendly, attentive service. Food is good with a solid wine selection. The patio is a gem when open. Perfect for larger groups as well as an intimate date night.

The branzino was outstanding! The ambiance is great and very cozy and the beet touch was the cannoli! Can’t wait to come back☺️

I love the pork chop dinner. It's flavorful, filling, and festive with the accompanying vegetables and potatoes.

We came here for a pre-theater dinner. The patio is quite charming. I would love to be there a little later in the evening when it would be darker, all of the lights would be very romantic. We tried the special appetizer, an eggplant dish, and it was very good. Just the right portion to share as an appetizer and allow for an entrée. We shared the salmon with capers and tried the special of the day, shrimp risotto. We were both a bit disappointed with the salmon it lacked flavor. The shrimp risotto was very good. It would be a nice addition to the regular menu. Unfortunately, they did not have the lemon sorbet so I missed out on dessert. The wait staff was OK, nothing of note.

Service is notoriously slow. Always h been not just the result if post-COVID understaffing of the wait staff.

When we sat down at 6 o’clock we waited a good 10 minutes before a waiter approached our table. We told the waiter that we had theater tickets across the street for 7:30 PM. He asked we wanted any drinks and we said no thank you, he handed us our menus and didn’t return until 15 minutes later. He read the specials and we ordered two cod specials and one pasta dish of oil and garlic. We waited a good 50 minutes for our dishes to arrive and they were not even warm when he sat down our plates, I asked for the check now, please and wanted again for him to return with the check and then waited again for him to return for him to return my card with a pen so I could sign the receipt. Very little time to enjoy our cold dishes, and we left in a rush to get to our seats. The three elderly women rushing out the door ahead of us had the same complaint. It’s a shame that the owner manager isn’t more attentive to his clientele. They need more staff, we found on the floor and in the kitchen.

Great service despite the fact that they are stretched thin. Really tasty fresh salad with light dressing to start. Have to ask for olive oil and or butter for the bread service. Maybe consider charging if this is meant to be a cost saving action? Most people don’t relish dry bread. I cleaned my entire plate of chicken Marsala. It was moist and tender and the sauce was really tasty. Substituted the spinach for the carrots and broccoli. Made a great meal! Had the panne cotta for dessert and it melted in my mouth.
Feels like this place is struggling a bit with empty tables but I’m not sure why. Great food, service and location to the steppenwolf with excellent valet parking.
I’m guessing it’s the host? Or is he the owner? Surly, unfriendly, argumentative and not at all welcoming. He would do the business well to take a break and hire someone who knows how to make customers feel welcome.
I’ve been going here for years and enjoy the variety on the menu, the consistently good food and the knowledgeable and hard working staff. I just limit my interactions with the grouch and don’t let him ruin my otherwise pleasant dining experience

Once you discover and experience a meal at Gianni's, you'll be back. Food is always great as is the service. The outside courtyard is a perfect setting to enjoy Chicago summers.

We ALWAYS dine with Gianni before any Steppenwolf event, or on a wonderful summer night, because their outdoor patio is unsurpassed in the neighborhood. Also, they have wonderful specials and serve the best Branzino in town!

The entire dining experience was amazing. The food was excellent, the surface was impeccable with our water glass continuously being filled. The waiter was extremely helpful with the menu and the atmosphere is second to none. My only regret is that we did not sit outside.

Beautiful restaurant, old-style small bar, outdoor patio, wonderful ambiance, and great food!

In addtion to the delicious food, we really like the vibe at Trattoria Gianni, plus the host and servers are fast and friendly. This time my husband had the veal scallopini, and I ordered the spinach ravioli, and we shared a Caesar Salad. We finished all of it in time to attend a Steppenwolf Theater performance across the street.

Yes, yes, yes! Excellent in every way. I was visiting from out of state and they were able to slip me in, on a very busy evening! I greatly appreciated his help!
