This was our first visit to Gianni's and we enjoyed it very much. We tried the Restaurant Week Prix-Fixe and everything was delicious. My only negative comment is that all of the dishes were served lukewarm.

Perfect place for before going to the theater! Great food and they understand the ebb and flow of the theater attendees.

Dinner before the play at Steppenwolf which is right across the street so they have a captive audience. Nice selection; good service; my daughter and I shared a caesar salad, each had a pasta and each had dessert. The sage/butter ravioli and the veal ravioli in cream sauce were both lovely. Nice warm bread and butter. Good wine choices. My only complaint is that I ordered sorbet for dessert and received 3 big scoops -- but I had asked if I could have a scoop or chocolate gelato and one of lemon sorbet and somehow that was impossible which is absurd. They cost the same; they have to be scooped on order; why on earth can one not have what one wants? But good place and we will come again if we go to a show at Steppenwolf.

We enjoyed everything about our experience at Trattoria Gianni with one small exception. The bus person was not trained well and was constantly grabbing things off the table. We weren't finished with appetizers, and their hands were grabbing at our plates. We had to physically put up our arms to stop them from taking things, repeatedly. The same with dinner plates. People were still eating and they were reaching around the table to grab up plates. This is incredibly rude and unnecessary. At least some of the busing staff need to be better trained. The waitress was excellent, the food was delicious, the room is cozy and I love that the owner is at the door. Other than the busser, the night was perfect.

Went to the restaurant before Theatre show. This is a great restaurant right across from the theater. It was nice to see reasonable prices, good food, and pleasant service. We were pleasantly surprised.

I've been a big fan of this restaurant for decades. Food is, and has always been, excellent. Service is friendly and attentive. The indoor space is ample, and deserves to be more consistently full than it generally is. In summer, their big outdoor patio is a beautiful and lively dining space.

Exceptional food and service always a delight to be with you and thanks to Gianni for being the perfect host ....like being in his home!

I've eaten at Trattoria Gianni three times over the last couple years, always preceding a Steppenwolf production. Very convenient due to proximity but sadly not great food.

I give a lot of love for the cozy vibe and really solid, old-school Italian cooking. Homemade pastas are great and the drinks are solid. Service can run a little slow, but it’s still a neighborhood favorite. And great to visit before a show at Steppewolf.

We like to go to Trattoria Gianni after seeing the show at Steppenwolf. The food is always delicious, and portions are generous. The entire staff is friendly and attentive to us.

I had the octopus and sea bass. Both were outstanding. Cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the duck which was also moist and delicious. Their choice of vegetables with the dishes was also well thought out- mashed potatoes with the octopus and grilled squash with the fish. A medley of veggies with the duck. Drinks and food were awesome. At the end of the day I think the costs are high, but the food was delicious.

Perhaps Saturday is just a bad time to go to this restaurant. The noise level was deafening. The food was.good but not great. The space was full; the wait staff was stretched. Amadeus at Steppenwolf probably produced the overflow crowd.

Food was very good, as was a glass of Soave. We were seated in the quiet rear of the restaurant, as we requested. Service was fine until our check came that included a second glass of wine - that we'd neither ordered nor was brought to the table. The waiter thanked us for pointing out the error, but didn't really apologize. Be sure to check the check!

So thrilled to find this gem! I went twice this week; the bar for a drink before the theater (convenient across from Steppenwolf) and loved it so much, we returned for dinner. Marco was wonderful, and we had a great dinner. I have food allergies and they clarified what I could have. Looking forward to returning.
