We visited the restaurant yesterday. The food was ok but their dishes wasn’t clean, they were dirty and oily looked like they never washed it.

The best part was the bollywood music. Food was not like indian Chinese. Hakka noodles were spaghetti w a chinese sauce. Paneer dish their signature dish felt not fully cooked. Drinks - pani puri cocktail - was like drinking pani puri water but thats about it. Appetizers were so so. Only thing tasty was shahi tukda.Atmosphere was between an upscale restaurant and a desi diner on devon st. But music was v good. Not going back.

We had a fairly good experience at Vermilion. Very creative menu with nice cocktails. The presentation was very neat and creative. We ordered the Kolkata street chaat, the paneer wok appetizer - both were great. The gobi Manchurian entree was ok. None of the items stood out as extraordinary but were good. The ambiance was a little off putting. The lighting was too bright, floors were weird looking and music was a little too loud. Nice spot to try some creative Indian menu. They have a mandatory service charge for parties more than one.

The service was great at Vermillion. They came to check on us and refilled our waters. The chairs were so luxurious, the music was very culturally on point, and the food was delicious and in pretty decent sized portions. I didn't like how they added the gratuity to the check- we were only a party of 2. That should be up to the customer.

Be very careful as the restaurant automatically includes 20% gratuity and I didn't see that and tipped an additional 20%. I didn't realize until I got back home an hour later and the only way to take care of it is to go back to the restaurant that same evening. I cannot do that so now I have to try to request a credit through open table at my next reservation. Not too happy about that.

We dined here during the Chicago restaurant week. They had a special menu of basically 4 courses and everyone (5 of us) at the table had to opt for the same dish from every course. A bit limiting. I would have been ok with this if the food was any good. Sadly all the dishes were super salty and lacked flavor or subtlety. Also we were charged us a 20% gratuity (no options). The ambience was meh at best.

I came here during restaurant week and the way it was set up between multiple people didn’t really make sense to me. You pay $49 a person for the menu but they say they portion it by party size but I’m unsure how true that is. The food was decent. I don’t think I would come here if it wasn’t discounted. Also, the sangria was disgusting. Some of the worst I have ever had.

This place is not a real restaurant. Why are you guys even paying rent in River North - better to become a ghost kitchen because food is somewhat decent and will do well in

The food delivery was slow even thought it was crowed of extremely busy. Once the food did arrive, it was not hot, just warm. And chicken nuggets (which that is what I'm calling them) were extremely stringy and a little tough. I spent just $50.00 and was satisfied with the menu.

We had the chance to get a reservation at vermilion for restaurant week and got to try the amazing menu. They offer great options for me as a vegetarian so I was super happy and excited.

Tried out Vermillion during restaurant week. Unfortunately, something very wrong was going on with the service. Not sure quite what the problem was, but we never got our drinks, had to ask 3x over nearly 40 minutes to get water refilled. Things came out at odd intervals, and then we had to wait for long periods before we could get servers' attention. Wrong dishes delivered to us. We ended up getting dessert elsewhere because no one showed up to get our dessert order and we thought it might take another long period of time to get the dessert and then pay. Felt like we had to pay and get out when we had the servers' attention. The place wasn't super crowded, and the main server seemed very professional, so I'm not sure what the problem was. Food was tasty, but I won't go back. Our date night experience was a bit of a bummer.

Bad experience. They forced us to order same dish for the two of us during restaurant week. Unaccommodating for dinners of opposite dietary restrictions. On top of that they automatically add 20% service fees for any party of 1 and above. Ridiculous when it's expected, especially for subpar service. Food is pricey for what it offers.

Where to begin we came here looking to try the recent indo Chinese menu. Our rese was for 8pm and admittedly we showed up late at around 820. We were told that we were past our grace period and therefore our reservation was released. We asked if they could make an accommodation given that the place was half Empty. We were told they would check with the manager. They told us they couldn't accommodate because the kitchen couldn't take anymore orders. The reservation was made by a friend and he had put down his credit card for deposit. Since they were unwilling to seat us and the story seemed inconsistent, I decided to look on OpenTable and To my surprise they had 845 and 9pm rese available. I told the greeter this and I made the reservation and within seconds he said “I see the reservation. Now I can seat you. “ Very bizarre. Maybe they were short staffed and were trying to close early but it would have been better if they just told us that We did end up eating an entire meal there. Food was average.

I have been hearing a lot about Vermilion Restaurant. I just haven't had the chance but today we took the time to experience vermilion. Let me tell you, I can't say anything bad about this place from point A to point Z it nailed everything.
