No nonsense neighborhood diner. Finally able to come after 20 some years of seeing it on my way home. Basic diner fare. Waffles had a nice crispy texture. Strawberries fresh. Accommodating servers.

My son took me there for my birthday breakfast yesterday. Great food and excellent people work there. Highly recommend them.
Standard breakfast. A bit pricey for what you get and the menu misrepresents the food, somewhat.

I have ordered lemon meringue pies from the establishment for going on two years. When you buy any pie from them, it comes in a high-quality steel pan which if you decide/are able to return to their establishment you can trade that pan back in for a five dollar rebate on your next pie. I have always done this. Also, I have only ordered pies ahead of time which took no more than three days for them to fulfill my order. In the rural badlands of The North Woods of Wisconsin I consider this impressive. The pie always has ultra flaky crust with no less than 3 1/2 inches of meringue (I have measured with a tape measure) as well as a further 2 inches of lemon below the meringue and above the crust. The young women who check me out At the counter when I pick up my order and pay are always cheerful and professional when they were at their busiest with sitdown clientele I never waited more than two minutes. In this way, they are in my opinion the gold standard of what a customer could expect from service In this area of the state. That said? I also always and only pick up my orders wearing an N 95 mask to protect myself and others in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which is afflicted the world since 2020. As a direct result of my health decisions, I have on more than one occasion received undue stares and insulting giggles at my appearance while I was paying good money as well as cash tips For their products and services. For this reason, I have not returned in several months despite their out of this world product.
Perhaps I will have better and more respectful service the next time I have occasion to order and drive the more than 45 minutes required to pick up what I consider some of the best pie on the North American continent (my current vocation has afforded me traveling to three different continents on this earth as well as enjoying Michelin star rated baked goods). Maybe not. I shall update my review as time, tied, and service allows.

This is the neighborhood diner people dream of having nearby! The folks here are welcoming and kind. You can order anything on the menu and it somehow comes out exactly as you hoped - every time. Coming to a place where everyone is happy to be there is the perfect way to start your day!

I love this diner. First off, the owners and staff are very friendly and take pride in their business. Just as important, the food is delicious. Their biscuits and gravy remind me of home when my mom used to make it. And don’t leave without buying a piece of apple pie.

West River Cafe is a good, honest neighborhood diner . . . something that is increasingly difficult to find. The food was fresh, well prepared, and tasty. The service was friendly and efficient. We'll definitely be back!

delicious food and super friendly staff! 💕
Just ate here this morning. The food and service was good as usual, but I can’t condone an owner taking advantage of a situation to line their pockets. They are now charging an extra .65 an egg. That works out to $7.80 a dozen surcharge. I just paid $6.99 retail for a dozen jumbo organic eggs. The surcharge is not the problem, it’s the excessive amount of the surcharge. At .65 an egg, they’re more than doubling what eggs are costing them wholesale since you know wholesale is always less than retail.
