A little bit pricey but worth it. Expect some line during weekend. Love their lobster & fried pumpkins as well as Clay pot rice. Will visit again.

I don’t know who recommends Chef Shang in Chicago. Before I moved here three years ago, my cooking skills were pretty good, but if I tried eating there three years later, I would be confused. The pork belly and chicken had an unpleasant smell, and my mouth was very dry after eating it. Egg yolk pumpkin is the only one that can be eaten, so don't eat it if it tastes bad. The plum duck sauce is slightly bitter and the duck is very fat and greasy. For lobster and glutinous rice, we can only say that lobster is lobster and glutinous rice is glutinous rice. You can taste that the lobster was alive before it died, but this lobster must have been fried and placed on top of the glutinous rice. The glutinous rice has probably been in the pot for a long time, and the two have not merged together at all.
These dishes cost about 200 after tip after tax. I can only say that they are still open in Chicago because Chicago is a food desert.

Very nice spot for authentic chinese food at reasonable price. Looking forward to revisiting. The crab was pretty small and not much meat to eat but other than that everything was great.

The dine-in experience was quite good; the service was attentive and warm, and the dishes were decent. I came specifically for the pork tripe chicken, and the price was reasonable—cheaper than what I had in Toronto and Quebec, Canada. However, the biggest issue was that the pork tripe and chicken pot didn’t have a continuous heat source underneath, so it got cold quickly, especially since we visited in winter. And once this dish gets cold, it just doesn’t taste good. The other dishes were average but acceptable. Overall, it was a decent experience. But the biggest letdown was the hygiene issue—I took the leftover food back to my hotel, and the next morning, when I was eating it, I found a piece of black plastic shell inside. It completely disgusted me for the whole morning. This hygiene issue is definitely their biggest flaw, and it pretty much wiped out all the good impressions I had.

The food was served quickly. Portion size is not that large, but the flavor is pretty authentic. Their beef short ribs were too tough.

This restaurant serves mostly pre-made dishes, bringing this approach from China to Chicago is absolutely infuriating. I ordered their signature Pork Belly and Chicken Soup, and while it looked steaming hot on the surface, it was still cold inside when I ate it. Don’t waste your money at a place like this. Say no to pre-made dishes and get them out of Chicago!

Today I ordered a seafood boat clam, but it was gone. I was told to put more shrimps in it, but I agreed. I thought it was evenly added with some other seafood. Then I found out that there was no corn in it, so I asked the store. Knowing that the corn was gone, I was directly replaced with potatoes. There were really a lot of potatoes... The experience was very bad. The taste was also very salty and milky. I would not recommend it.

Very authentic Cantonese cuisine, the sizzling hotpot tofu is great. King crab is also delicious when eaten three times.

Really enjoyed the salted egg fried pumpkin. The lobster glutinous rice also had a lot of lobster. Huge portions, definitely worth the price.
Update: Went back and the salted egg fried pumpkin was just as good as I remembered. We also ordered beef ribs, which were great as well. We had mango sago for dessert which was delicious and richer and creamier than expected. Would definitely come back for different salted egg dishes!

I go here once a week. Went on September 29th and all the dishes were salty. Please tell the chef to reduce the amount of salt
