Blue Springs Cafe Reviews
I stopped here on a trip as it was close to the interstate. I ordered a reuben and got a half-soggy grilled sandwich with a small compressed patty of chopped up meat in the center of the bread. The coleslaw was rubbery and tasted as though it had only sugar and vinegar on it. The pie was served in a crumbled heap. I would’ve sent the sandwich back, but travel time was ticking. 100% do not recommend.
The lemon meringue pie I had yesterday rates one star. There was no crust! Just filling.8$! Give me a brake, I advise you to watch them cut it in front of you at the counter. To make sure it's all there& you get what your paying for.
The apple pie was excellent as usual!

Blue Springs Cafe is a homestyle comfort food haven off Hwy 70, serving delicious dishes in a cozy, come-as-you-are environment. The star of the show is their mouth-watering fried chicken, with large, juicy pieces that are a must-try. Generous portions are perfect for sharing, and unlimited sides are a bonus. The staff is kind, attentive, and very friendly, making for an enjoyable dining experience. Visitors often come here for family-style meals, especially when traveling down I-70 feeling hungry and tired. The cafe is famous for its pies—especially strawberry-rhubarb and cherry—which are highly recommended, even if they are a bit pricey. A meal for four pieces of pie and two coffees costs around $28. Be prepared to pay with cash, as the cafe only accepts cash, although an ATM is available on-site. Many guests suggest saving room for the famous pie, and some come back regularly just for dessert.
Recently, visitors have noted that the family-style meals are delightful with many choices of mains and sides. However, some have experienced issues like side dishes being served at room temperature and fried chicken tasting of old grease, indicating they might have had an off day. Despite this, most guests plan to return, appreciating the welcoming atmosphere and tasty food.
Another guest shared that during a trip from St. Louis to Cincinnati, they saw signs for the cafe’s high pie and decided to stop for pie and coffee, but ended up having a wonderful lunch. On Sundays, the cafe offers family-style meals with unlimited vinegar slaw, pickled beets, rolls, and a main dish with mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans. The fried chicken is made to order, with options for white, dark, or mixed pieces, typically four pieces enough to share. The fried walleye is lightly seasoned and not greasy. Guests often bring home slices of strawberry rhubarb and cherry pie, which are highly praised. The staff is friendly and helpful, accepting cash, check, and Venmo, with an ATM available. During busy lunch hours, the place fills up quickly, especially with pie pickup orders. This hidden gem is a must-visit—don’t just drive by.
In another visit, a large group arrived right after lunch on a Saturday. The staff was very accommodating, and every person in the group raved about the food. The pies are considered to be to die for, and all food is homemade. The fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, and breaded pork tenderloin sandwich received high praise for their delicious flavors and efficient service, with all orders served hot and fresh.
