I was not ready for this - celebrating Mother-in-law birthday and she wanted to go here. Understated and small/quaint setting in a strip mall, wasn't expecting a whole lot. But I was clearly mistaken. One of the best Latino-styled meals I've had (and I've had dozens in many Latin countries!!!). The bacalao croquetas were excellent - 2 large golden brown served with a mango salad. El Buren is a restaurant that serves great Puerto Rican food and is often my go-to restaurant when planning a trip into Highwood for dinner. A basket of delicious Yucca chips is served at the beginning of the meal and are complimentary. Typical Puerto Rican side dishes to try are fried plantains (tostones), sweet pan sautéed plantains are also delicious (platanos maduras) and don't pass up the rice with pigeon peas (arroz con gandules) for a true Puerto Rican meal experience....read full review
This was an unexpected find! Everything was delicious. We had the jerk chicken sandwich which had such a great flavor. Make sure you get all the toppings on the sandwich. The banana chips are super yummy along with the root chips and dip to start!
