The Book and Bean Cafe is a charming hidden gem located inside the Joliet Public Library. Its cozy atmosphere, with cushioned seats by a windowed wall, makes it a perfect place to relax. Visitors can enjoy a well-made frappe or iced coffee while exploring the library. The menu at the cafe offers a variety of freshly baked treats, like a scrumptious chocolate covered cheesecake, and delicious wraps with a homemade feel. The cafe is a nice complement to the library’s friendly and helpful staff, creating a delightful experience for visitors. The library itself is clean, well-organized, and features a small play area for small children with tables set up with coloring sheets and crayons, sometimes including arts and crafts. It also rents out video games and DVDs, making it a versatile spot for all interests. The decor and table setups are pretty, making it an inviting place to sit and spend time. The library's inclusivity efforts are appreciated, with a great manga section and fun features like Nintendo Switch games to try out before buying. The computer section is useful for printing, with a low cost and free initial balance on library cards. Overall, this library and cafe offer a unique, enjoyable escape with good parking and a safe area, making it a highly recommended spot for relaxation and fun. Despite ongoing renovations, visitors hope the small coffee shop will return, as it was one of the favorite aspects. The library continues to be a rewarding place, especially for children, with activities like the Summer reading challenge that encourage reading and creativity. Children enjoy pretending on the stage and engaging in crafts, puzzles, and games. It remains a calm and welcoming environment, with friendly staff making it a great place to study or spend quality time.
