Places for GOOD genuine southern or Cajun style cooking are becoming rarer around the Chicago area. Dixie Kitchen fits the bill, top to bottom. If I ever feel like Soul Food and cooking at home isn't the order of the day... This place is on my list of go toos.

Overall 2 stars for a lunchtime visit. Understandable not to sit customers until everyone arrives. Very appropriate for the dinner hour. However for lunch only 3 people in restaurant, and we couldn't be seated not even to order cocktails. Could not go to the bar as it was closed to customers who are seated. Oh well, less money I will have to spend with this establishment. And won't be back during the lunch hour.

The gumbo was good. I really had higher expectations for this place. Do not buy the jerk chicken.

Everything was great(food and service) . The gratuity was outrageous and if you use your card instead of cash you bill is a bit higher.

The manager suffers from compassion fatigue. As soon my husband explained the chicken was unbearably salty. She didn’t acknowledge the issue/complaint and quickly explained its a “Dixie recipe”, no refunds and no exchange but she will make an exception. The response was scripted, cold and offensive. This ruined our evening because we couldn’t stop talking about how the manager treated us.

Went here with the wife to check it out. It’s been a long time and last time there it was in Hyde Park. So I ordered the fried chicken. It was too salty. So I told the white manager and she tried to tell me a black man about southern fried chicken and it is suppose to be salty because that is the recipe. I told her that I am well versed on not only chicken but also watermelon and this chicken is inedible. So she took it off the bill. Did not offer me anything else and charged me for the Mac and cheese that I was still eating. The waiter took my plate and I was thinking he would re cook the chicken and try again but instead he took what I was able to eat before I finished and then charged me for it. Bottom line is that I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone. I should’ve known because no place on Torrence that I have ever eaten at is good after it has been opened for longer than 6 months. Anyways avoid this place if possible.

Keep It Cute

The food was just okay. The green beans were not well seasoned. But the blackened chicken and mashed sweet potatoes were flavorful. Our server Kristie was great. However, the food quality has changed since my last visit, and not necessarily for the better. For the price and billing stipulation, I don't believe it's worth the money.

I like the crowd it was nice but the waitress in which I understand was serving other people kept disappearing the ice tea was good the greens was ok the sweet mashed potatoes in which I never had sweet potatoes served that way was really good the Mac and cheese was mackin very delicious the corn bread cakes was very good too but unfortunately the half baked chicken was not so good I liked the sauce but I had to send it back to be cooked again because it tasted rubbery like half done when they sent it back the same ugh so I didn't eat it the cobbler I loved the juices and peaches but the crust wasn't to my liken not sure if I would dine there again but hey who knows i had no complaints other than that half chicken 😔 should have ordered the catfish 😞 so returning is a maybe 🤔

I came to Dixie’s Kitchen like I always do, yet this time I had a terrible experience. The sever was unfriendly and unskilled (Joel). I order a mudslide drink which was suppose to be thick like a milkshake, it was very thin and unsatisfiable. I immediately told my sever about it and he said usually when we open the blender doesn’t blend properly. I said, that’s fine, I can order something else. He grabs the manager Karen and she comes over and I tell her the same thing. She said, I’ll take it off, but I’m not suppose to. I said, you can leave it on the check, and I’ll still pay for it if that’s a problem. Note to management, Just because I’m of the opposite race doesn’t mean I’m trying to get something for FREE. By the way I also ordered two meals to go for my family. I asked my sever do Dixie cakes come with or do I have to order on the side, he said they come with. After checking the bag before leaving, I noticed the butter for the cakes were missing, I went to the bar where the manager Karen was standing and she immediately looked annoyed before I even spoke, I asked her If I could get some butter for my to go order for my Dixie cakes, she said, to orders don’t come with the butter just the bread, now I’ve order to go orders when I visited in the past, and the butter came with. I told her I still wanted butter and I would just pay for it. She charged me 1.47 for the butter. Talking about petty!!! Dixie you just lost a future guest!!!!

The food here is fantastic. I had the fried chicken. The menu says it takes extra time, so we put the order in ahead of everyone else. My brother had the shrimp, which was also delicious. The prices seemed fair. I'll be going back...
