The Village Tavern Reviews
We had a wonderful waiter today named Luke. Friendly service and was very nice. The apple Swiss cheeseburger was wonderful . The staff is super friendly and we will definitely be going back .
You can’t beat the ambiance of Lake County’s oldest, continuously running bar and restaurant! A Midwest classic and the menu has something for everyone. Surround yourself with antiques and wonderful staff and patrons and leave with a full belly and a smile on your face.
Great place, they had fun drinks for Apple fest and the food was delicious! Service was great!!!

The Village Tavern is a cozy, nostalgic restaurant known for great service and delicious meals like fish fry and German platter. The German platter includes tasty bratwurst, Thuringer sausage, potato salad, and sauerkraut. The broasted chicken sandwich is moist and flavorful. The atmosphere is friendly, with live music often creating a lively experience. It is also recognized as the oldest continuously running restaurant in Illinois, adding to its charm and historic significance. Guests have noted that the staff is super friendly, with some even praising specific waiters like Luke for their wonderful service. While the kid-friendliness is somewhat limited as it is a tavern, children can still find a variety of options on the menu. The restaurant is a great spot to enjoy meals like the apple Swiss cheeseburger, onion rings, fried shrimp, and reuben quesadillas. Although parking can be tight on busy nights and service may be slow during peak times, it remains a welcoming place for those seeking tasty food and drinks. Overall, The Village Tavern is a fantastic choice for sharing meals, celebrating special occasions, and soaking in history.
