We've not been there since 2017 due to relocation but have nothing but fond memories of Dover Straits. When we bought our house in Grayslake in 1995, our realtor took us there to celebrate. We continued going, mainly for birthdays, anniversaries or impress out of towners, and were never disappointed. We have immediate access to super fresh seafood in Florida but miss the ambiance and supper club vibe Dover Straits provided. Loved that the owners always greeted us like we were worth a million bucks.

We are out of towners that were in the area for a family event tomorrow, but tonight we were just looking for a seafood restaurant for dinner. We were actually headed to a different restaurant when we passed Dover Straits on Highway 45, when we did a U-turn and headed back into their parking lot. We were so glad we did! The menu is unbelievable! It took us over 20 minutes to pick from all of the choices. Our waiter Marvin was excellent. Marvin knew the menu inside and out and he answered all of our questions which helped us with our choices. Marvin perfectly paced the food from appetizer to dessert, so we weren’t rushed and had time to visit and enjoy a lovely evening out. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody who loves seafood, as the service was impeccable and the seafood options were endless. We will definitely be back the next time we have a family event in this area.

Dietary restrictions: I let my waiter know of my food allergies, and they were able to let me know which foods I needed to avoid and which ones they could make adjustments on.

I was with a friend. We sat at the bar. I had an appetizer—shrimp cocktail—which was delicious. Shrimp were huge —but only 4 for the price of $16.95. Seemed steep. We had drinks, 2 and 2 $5 shots. The bill was $65, then I added the tip after that. However, there was musical entertainment which was OUTSTANDING!! Well worth it; so, I suppose some of what we paid helped provide entertainment.

Went for one marriage anniversary and the staff were so nice in helping us celebrate. The food was pricey, but well worth it. Everything was so fresh and home made. To top it off the staff were so excited that we were there celebrating our anniversary, it really added to make it a great experience!

30 mins at the bar with less than 10 people and it took all 30 mins to get a menu, dont ask about trying to order. Terrible food- over salted crab cakes , potatoes soup masked as clam chowder ewww. Be ashamed . People used to cook with pride .
Terrible service , a bartender that started us off but refused to help the rest of the time ? Legit not too many other ppl to help - but he wouldn’t even make eye contact ? The heck? Had to flag help down . When it came time for the check , I had to find someone so I could leave this crap shack… mind you, I’m at the bar- with 2 bartenders. Bread was good though !!! That’s all I could eat from here. Used to visit monthly Never again I’m literally going to pay this bill and go to McDonald’s , which is disgusting.
