So it was Christmas Eve, and Dover Straits must've had reservations galore! Ours were at 6:30 but we didnt get seated until 7:15 but the bar is the best and we had no trouble just hanging out there. Once we got seated Susie took care of us and we had the best meal. Highly recommend, will be back.

Had a 6pm reservation. We arrived at 6pm and checked in. We were told it’ll be a while and no timeframe given. 6:30pm comes around and had to had ask what’s going on and were told people are sitting there then immediately told they are cleaning the table. Another 17 minutes go by and we are finally seated. 7:07pm a waiter finally shows up. ONE HOUR 7 MINUTES LATE. Give drink orders with much crossed off or just out of, SMH. Copper cup for the mule was peeling all over. Trash the cup. Placed our order - soup was cold, others missing theirs. Owner can’t hear anything or even apologized. Meals come with soup but was NOT told it’s only specific soups so paid full price for cups of French onion. Obnoxious. Had to chase the server down for regular drink refills. Halibut was rubber and returned for salmon which was much better. Had the ribs which were legit the smallest I’ve seen. No one’s food was cooked to order properly. Medium rare was medium at best. Medium was well done. Overcooked all around. Need more staff, they seemed very overwhelmed but stop over extending to make more money. I’m not a huge seafood fan so it’ll be easy to not return. Perhaps this was just a bad one off experience, but I won’t be back personally.

Really enjoyed our evening! We had a 6pm reservation and were promptly seated. Hosts were extremely kind and gracious….the service was a 10/10 all night. Water was always filled, dirty plates promptly taken away, waitress was very attentive, and the food was delicious. Excellent quality and I would recommend to anyone. Keep up the great work as many restaurants these days do not offer the whole package in terms of good food and good service. They run a tight ship here and really look after you. We will return soon!

I surprised my mom and her husband for her birthday and called Dover Straits in Mundelein, IL to see if I could pre-pay for their dinner as a surprise. I spoke with (I believe) the owner, who was so accommodating and kind! He took my mom’s name, a description, and my credit card info, and assured me everything would be taken care of.
When my mom and her husband arrived, he greeted them, asked their names, and even inquired if they were celebrating anything — my mom thought that was such a nice touch (and had no idea what was coming!). They enjoyed a wonderful dinner, dessert, and after-dinner drinks, and when they went to pay, the gentleman told them it was already taken care of.
They were completely surprised and so touched! They said the food was absolutely delicious — my mom loved her soft-shell crabs, Richard had a perfectly cooked steak, and they both raved about the desserts.
Thank you so much, Dover Straits, for going above and beyond to make their night so special!

what a find! We were in town for a family event and staying at a hotel in the area. We were headed out to dinner to a different restaurant when we did a U-turn into Dover Straits. We were so glad we did. The menu was unbelievable, Our waiter was fantastic and The food was absolutely delicious. next time we’re in the area, we will be back.

We've not been there since 2017 due to relocation but have nothing but fond memories of Dover Straits. When we bought our house in Grayslake in 1995, our realtor took us there to celebrate. We continued going, mainly for birthdays, anniversaries or impress out of towners, and were never disappointed. We have immediate access to super fresh seafood in Florida but miss the ambiance and supper club vibe Dover Straits provided. Loved that the owners always greeted us like we were worth a million bucks.
We are out of towners that were in the area for a family event tomorrow, but tonight we were just looking for a seafood restaurant for dinner. We were actually headed to a different restaurant when we passed Dover Straits on Highway 45, when we did a U-turn and headed back into their parking lot. We were so glad we did! The menu is unbelievable! It took us over 20 minutes to pick from all of the choices. Our waiter Marvin was excellent. Marvin knew the menu inside and out and he answered all of our questions which helped us with our choices. Marvin perfectly paced the food from appetizer to dessert, so we weren’t rushed and had time to visit and enjoy a lovely evening out. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody who loves seafood, as the service was impeccable and the seafood options were endless. We will definitely be back the next time we have a family event in this area.
