Ordered to go. Came in early to get a beer. No greeting and no service. Others behind me were happily helped. Guess I’m invisible.

3:00 Sunday and they didn't have any of their " world famous award winning "ribs available. Had chopped pork BBQ. Terrible. Obviously made at least 2 days ago and stored in bags. Cold dried out extra fatty pile of crap. Extremely disappointed in my visit.

The BBQ is always outstanding. This place literally sets the standard for all BBQ everywhere. I’ve had BBQ all over the country. Lots a great BBQ out there for sure, but there is none better than 17th Street. Even the sides are pretty good. This is where so many BBQ joints lose me is when they have terrible sides. We did order some potato skins and some fried pickles. Both were very good. There is a huge volume of fried pickles in one order. We got too much when we ordered 2 servings of them. Service is always good.

I wish I could give 6 stars. I had the salad with pulled pork which was heavenly. The greens were fresh and crisp, all the veggies perfect and the pork was delicous and tender. I ordered my husband brisket to go to have after his meeting. I stole a bit too! :) Oh my. Oh my. That brisket has perfect smokey taste and is amazingly tender. The service was personal and perfect. (I sat at the bar, since I was solo.) I appreciated the fresh lime juice in my club soda too. Amazing spot. You've got to try it!!

We saw the sign on the way into town, Murphysboro the BBQ capitol of Illinois so we figured we gotta have some BBQ. Apparently there are only 2 places in town? One was closed so we found 17th st. BBQ. Super friendly staff deserves a 5 star rating, Nice restaurant, nice atmosphere, nice bar all deserve high rating. As we were camping nearby right on the lake we decided to get our BBQ to go to enjoy it overlooking the lake. We got ribs, pulled pork and beans. Unfortunately I would give the food only 3 stars. The ribs were good, not great, sort of tough, not falling off the bone. The pulled pork was okay, have had much better. The beans were terrible, looked like store bought generic baked beans mixed in. So.... great restaurant, great staff ups the rating to a 4.

Wow! Traveling through the area. Amazing food and service that felt like family. Ribs, brisket, pork shoulder, sides, all top notch. Will return again someday.

A friend of my husband always raves about this place so we decided to try it when passing through at the right time of day. I'm a native southerner and I can honestly say any place selling ribs like the ones I had today would not be in business in the South for more than a week. My ribs were dry, stringy and had a crust that could have doubled as a boomerang it was so stiff and hard. And $18 for a half rack with NO sides included is mighty steep, especially for a small town in SW Illinois. My husband said his brisket sandwich was ok, but no better than ok. His cole slaw was almost too vinegary for him even though we both like vinegary slaw. This place is en route from where we live now and my husband's hometown, but we won't be stopping here again. We'll be sticking to true southern smoked ribs where the meat literally falls off the bone.

Was down here with family for a little R&R and paid a visit to the the 17th Street BBQ mothership in Murphysboro. The place came highly recommended by several friends and colleagues. I love BBQ and have been to many joints over the years so was excited about the visit. However, overall I was underwhelmed by the food. I had brisket and baby back ribs, both of which were dry (especially the ribs). Also--my half slab only had five bones--not a very generous helping-especially for 18.00. On the plus side, the collard greens were very tasty. I also enjoyed the onion straws, although others in my family felt that they need more battering. One big hit was the smoked wings, which my son had, They were delicious. My wife had the smoked turkey salad--which tasted good but was a little short on the smoked turkey. We liked the atmosphere-a nice down-home place. But I have to knock the rating down because the meats were only average--and expensive.

Great place to have a gathering for family or company gathering. The food and service was great. The facility was clean and looked fabulous.

Had to try the world famous bbq. Was not disappointed. Excellent BBQ and worth the detour from my road trip. Be sure to get the basket of pork rinds sprinkled with dust rub. The best pork rinds I've had. The basket was popping over ten minutes after being delivered. Super fresh.
