The food and service was excellent and the owner, Jerry, was kind enough to listen to stories of my childhood, working in the hardware store that my great grandfather started back in the early 1900s. Was lucky enough to work for my grandpa there while in middle school. Great to see some of the original things that have been kept. We will be back next time we visit.“

“Hazel’s Diner Tarot and High Tea April 2024 My daughter and I attended “Tarot and High Tea” at Hazel’s Diner and enjoyed THE BEST tasting food of any High Tea we’ve ever been to. All of the finger sandwiches are on their homemade breads. We especially enjoyed the roast beef, and the turkey. From the sweet things on the tea tower our mutual favorite was the lemon custard filled croissant. There were plenty of flavored tea selections for every palate. And what a fun addition to have a tarot card reading! We love High Tea and have been to: The Palm Court at both The Drake in Chicago and The Plaza in NYC, The Tea Room at Harrod’s in London, Tea at 1024 in Honolulu, HI, and High Tea at The Baker House in Lake Geneva. The tea tower of food at Hazel’s High Tea beats all of them with their fresh, homemade food. You can taste the love and care that goes into every morsel. We will be back again and again!“

“Our family had Rodney Whetlow celebration of life on March 3rd 2025. It went very smooth and with the different areas people didn’t feel so stuffed and were able to relax and share memories. The Bottle Shop helped our family with ideas for setting the event up and making everyone feel very welcome. The employees were always checking on family members and walked to the whole area to check on everyone to insure they are comfortable and everything was great.“

“We have been going here for a while. The other breakfast places around here are nothing compared to whistle stop. “My family and I moved to McHenry not that long ago and let me tell you, finding a Hispanic/latino restaurant isn’t hard to find - But finding the restaurant that delivers in not just their service, but their food is hard to find. That’s where my brother and I have found ourselves many times visiting other restaurants around the area and being let down…

Not today! We have finally found a restaurant that delivers in all the areas we have been looking for and then some. Listen, want to know how to spot a good Mexican restaurant , try their chip and salsa and their aqua de horchata. If they’re stale, you’ll know first hand what to expect.

Well, let me tell you that not only did this place feel welcoming, their food was delicious! The tamales was the key factor in this as well as their rice. My brother and I were left satisfied and happy. The owner reminds me of my father, someone who fights to make a living and the way everyone here treats their customers is outstanding! I can see why the people who kept arriving had a smile on and just respected as if they were familia.

“We have been going there for the last five years bragging about the hamburgers. Went there today order the hamburger it came out. Almost fully well done very poor quality. One asked If I could have gotten it rare was told menu says medium well. Meat was of a quality as if it was cooked earlier this week. Definitely will not be going back for hamburgers. Was told by the waitress No one will ask you how you want it done it says on the menu. We used to consider it best burger in town.“

“The 3.7 Rating that I see, is NOT correct. I would give it 5 for for burgers and fries (only because I haven't tried everything on the menu...yet). The best burgers and fries! (Seriously!) burger was cooked medium well, just like we ordered. The fries were not too firm or too soft...perfect texture. Fries were lightly salted, and as a person who normally doesnt salt food, I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor it added. I dont know how they discovered the perfect amount of salt to use, but they did! We also treated ourselves to strawberry daquiries! Excellent meal, friendly service! Yum!!!!“
