“Decided to come visit the place after reading the reviews. Brought my 2 year old son with me and at the time of arrival, we were the first customers of the day. The owners were extremely welcoming and enjoyed talking to my son. Upon arrival of our pizza, it was extremely good with a good serving of cheese and meats. The crust was the right consistency of soft but still crisp. Overall, the establishment was very welcoming and the couple was very friendly. The food was affordable as well! Will definitely be coming back!“

“Update:I DONT NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! high turnover on staff. every month there are new bartenders. Even when they over-serve an aggressive customer who then assaults you, they will blame you. They have cameras but will believe gossip instead. Numerous people have been banned for being a victim of assault. Bartenders have been fired for being friends of the victim. Bartenders have been fired for calling in because they had to take their dog into the emergency animal hospital. The day after I was assaulted and my glasses broke, I was lectured and blamed by the OWNER for causing another OVERSERVED CUSTOMER to assault me. If you come don’t talk and leave before people are overserved! Historic General store from 1870.In 1940, it transitioned into the great American rural tavern it is today. It’s s what Texas Roadhouse was before they sold out. No better authentic Tavern food around. “We saw Jamie’s Route 66 getting off the highway to go to a different bar, and I immediately noticed the packed parking lot and bright lights outside on a Monday. I told my boyfriend, well, if the bar we’re going to sucks, we can always go there.

That’s exactly what we ended up doing and it was the best decision we could’ve made. Jamie was behind the bar and was so friendly, welcoming, and social. We were coming from a long drive, and she recommended the pizza which hit the spot.

Everyone knows her by name, and she knows everyone’s names too. She heard we were from Chicago and immediately introduced us to the people next to us who had Chicago connections. We ended up talking to them all night.

If you want great bar pizza, great conversation, great deals, and great bartenders, then Jamie’s Route 66 is the spot to go !!!“

“My name is Mike Lawrence. I began coming to Joe’s when it was still located in a somewhat decrepit house located just one door west of the building it’s now in. The front porch on that old house was loose and would bounce or sag a bit when you walked across it and my joke to guests I took in there with me, was they should carefully walk around that bad spot when we left because we’d all be heavier from having eaten and would probably fall through.

My daughter lost her first baby tooth while eating Spaghetti at Joe’s. She’s now 43 so, yeah, we’ve been coming for decades; certainly since the days when Joe Porcasi ran it.

All the food was great and, through all those years, I NEVER heard anyone say anything bad about the food, the service, the price, nothing … until now.

I guess it’s to be expected, especially in the food industry. Over time people weary of doing the same job day after day, get tired of serving the same food to the same people. Pride in performance gives way to pet peeves and personal pity parties. Oh, I get it. I do.

The reviews I read now talking about bad service, bad food, no longer being able to dine in … none of that would EVER have been true back in the day. Back when we came and sat down, talked, laughed, took in the awesome smells, and delighted when the food came. Even standing up to get the door for someone exiting with boxes of pizzas and more to take home to loved ones. Man, those were the best of times.

When we first found Joes, we didn’t go to any other shop in town. Why, when you’d found the best, would you want to go anywhere else?

We had even talked, briefly, with the original owners about opening a franchise on the east side of Springfield. Wish we’d carried through with that instead of opening a restaurant. Ah, well.

I don’t know if it’s still there, but I donated a kitchen chef statue to Joe’s when Jeff bought the place. Used to be right up on the counter.

I live in St. Louis now but, from time to time, when I long for one of Joe’s pizzas, or meatball subs, or lasagnas … and it’s only a 200 mile round trip but, frankly, some of the reviews have kinda bummed me out about doing it.

“I go in about twice a week for work . Eryn is usually the one to help me ,she is very thorough on everything. I come in she's welcoming , and helpful. The other staff was also amazing. The place was clean . I ask for certain things on pizza or side items , they always make what I want to perfection.

“Arrived while the place was slam packed. The team worked well together behind the bar and in the kitchen. Food was absolutely worth the wait. The wings and fries with white cheddar beer cheese were everything I wanted them to be. Will definitely be eating here again!“
