I've reviewed Gene's before but it's worth another mention. This is a classic drive in with NO indoor seating. The food is terrific and, despite recent increases, it's very reasonably priced. Drive in, make sure you get a mug of root beer. Specialties are the Spanish dogs but the slaw dogs and fried mushrooms are great too. Whenever I'm in Anderson, this is one of about four places I try to get to.

Wouldn’t know what to rate the food due to the fact we waited over 30 minutes and never got any service. Told the waitress we were ready to order, she said she would be right there. Three. Times. And carried on with taking any and every single car that pulled up after us. It’s also a good idea to tell your car hops to not let your customers know they have ear and sinus infections while handling food.

I absolutely love Gene's rootbeer stand. I have been eating here since I was a kid. I actually got to work here all through high-school at a time when the Colts came for training camp. Gene still owned it and Jeanie ran it. It hasn't been the same since but I still find a way to get there at least once a year. I tried to buy some rootbeer in the cans but they were out at that time. I love eating there, its so peaceful. My hotdog came just as i ordered it..plain with sauerkraut in a plastic container with a fork. My daughters fries were super hot and fresh with cheese dip. The diet rootbeers tasted so good! Our server was fast and friendly. The only thing is my hotdog was room temp and smaller than i remembered, lol. The kraut was really good, too. I used to love their spanish sauce but MSG gives me a headache.
