EXPENSIVE food with less substance in each dish. This place puts too much effort on the decorative part of the dishes not the food itself. I don’t recommend it. Also, I heard that the owner has a chat group where s/he posts that chat members who write 5-star reviews on Google or Yelp will be incentivized with a free drink with unlimited refills. So don’t believe these reviews here or on Yelp.

New owners, same great food. Lots of good stuff not found in other restaurants in town. (Not sure about the crackers and plum sauce, though--they seem very old-fashioned American Chinese food.)

The best Chinese restaurant in town. As a Chinese, I can say the food here is very delicious and authentic. And the new owner of this restaurant is superbly nice. Amazing.

This is my favorite place to eat authentic Chinese food in Bloomington! The guo bao rou, west lake beef soup (!!), fu qi fei pian, everything we have ordered has been good. I’ve been going 1-2 times a week since I discovered

Everything is authentic and absolutely delicious. Sorry for the chicken photo that is basically finished. It was so good that I forgot to take a picture.

We were driving around 3rd street looking for a place for lunch today while bringing our daughter back to IU after break. We saw Gourmet Garden and thought, why not? We went inside and we were immediately greeted by the friendly hostess. After we were seated she brought us menus and bowls of egg drop soup. The soup was hot and tasty. The spring rolls and crab rangoon we ordered for appetizers were satisfactory. I ordered the chicken with hot garlic sauce for my entree. The portion was large. Lots of chicken and plenty of fresh vegetables. It also came with white rice. It was perfectly spicy and I was glad I ordered it. I got about halfway though and was so full I couldn't finish it. My daughter ordered the steamed chicken and vegetable basket. It's exactly what it sounds like- a bamboo basket of steamed chicken and vegetables. It also came with a side of a brown sauce. She said it was really good, Tasted very fresh and didn't need any sauce. (The sauce was good though so she dipped a few bites into it.) My husband ordered the spicy shredded beef. It was a pretty presentation but he started eating before I could snap a photo. :-). Even though he was stuffed, he ate the entire thing so I think it's safe to say he enjoyed it. It was a nice meal and the people working were very friendly and it made for a good experience. My daughter said she would definitely be back with her roommates.

Very good food and a nice staff. I have been here a few times and it has been consistently great. General Tao's Chicken is my favorite dish.

It seems as if a new owner is talking over the place and not quite sure if the old management completely left. The food is tasty and has a unique blend of Chinese seasonings and worth for you to give it a try. The place was so new that they gave us paper plates and the menu was on several sheets of paper. We just went with it and ordered the food although rather strange to eat from paper plates and regular utensils. I would say that it was quite pricey, and I would suggest to lower it a bit since it was a price shocker to order dishes which was $12 to $15 a piece. Maybe we just ordered to more expensive items on the menu. Great food at a higher price and you should go give it a try. The interior looks much better than the exterior look. New Ownership, newly RE-opened. Despite working out the quirks of a business, the delicate Fish Fillet and Tofu dish was done with high quality presentation and taste!

The food is good. This was my favorite place in town. However, I and my friends visited there some day. They pushed us to order more meal or change the meal to other more expensive one. Come on. How can old Chinese customer don't know what to order. Feel so bad after that.

Too sad. The best restaurant I’ve ever been in the US.

This restaurant must be closed due to covid or similar reasons. The website will allow you to order food, but the restaurant itself is closed even though the website says it's open. There are no hours posted on the door and no one inside. It would be fantastic if someone would post a sign on their door and close down their website so that customers can make accommodations for alternate meal options.
