Going out of business was the best thing they did

Can you please tell me how you can patronize a business if you go there twice and they close down early for being out of everything. Very disappointing.

Maybe not the worst, but pretty bad. In business, I believe every aspect points to leadership. Clearly, there's little. Either a lack of training in restaurant management or just management period. There's no reason in today's restaurant market should customers wait well over 30 minutes for food...of any kind. And to top things off, the food was sub-standard, certainly not on par with other soul food restaurants in the City. So incredibly disappointing especially for a minority-owned business. They'll either get it together or die a slow death by poor management and sub-par food.

My family and I decided to get a carry out from this restaurant. We've drove past this place so many times and decided to check it out. When we arrived there was a short line and it gave us time to look over the menu. As I looked around I noticed they have a bar to the left and the dine in area is to the right. There was already a decent amount of people sitting down eating so I figured it would be awhile before our food would be done. When we made it to the front of the line I ordered the 4 whole wings dinner and I got collard greens and yams as my sides. My mom and sister ordered 4 whole wings dinners as well. They got mac and cheese plus yams as their sides. We got my dad the fish dinner and I can't even remember what sides he got. All the dinners came with drinks as well. The total came out to about $60 or a little over. The lady at the register told us it should be about 30 to 40 minutes before the food would be ready. We decided to go to home depot to give it some time for the food to be done. After about 45 minutes we decided to go back and the food wasn't quite done. The lady at the register said they were running behind and to give them more time. They seem to be understaffed. There was already two other people sitting at tables inside the bar area and one lady stated she was still waiting on her food to be done. Luckily after about 15 more minutes our food was done. Before we left we decided to stop at a table and check that all the food was correct. Everything was in the bag. I hope they are able to get more organized with the carry out part. As far as the food I really loved the greens. First let me say I have never had greens cooked with banana peppers. The taste is so explosive and I can tell they add vinegar to the greens as well. The chicken was okay. It wasn't super hot so I feel like it had been sitting out awhile. Now when it comes to the yams I was not a fan. I am very picky when it comes to yams. It literally just tasted like nutmeg and I could not taste any cinnamon or sugar. My mom and sister thought their food was just okay as well. My dad loved his meal. I'm not sure if I will come back or not. I have heard great things in regards to the live band they have here. I may give this place another chance one day. The staff is nice!

Food is really solid. Wait is a little too long and process still needs some work (a lot). The lady at the register, Jae, was super nice. She was great at answering my questions and gracious given how swamped she was.

So, yesterday I went to House of Soul yesterday Saturday June 19th for an event then I was offered to order food from the menu which I had six jumbo chicken wings, mac and cheese, and fries with no salt. When, I had took my first bite in that chicken wing that delicious crust, and the meat was so juicy, fresh, hot, and very tasty chicken wings. The mac and cheese wasn't bad either. Great customer service, the owner David very nice professional man, and even his staff were nice too. They all made sure I was good, or if I needed anything else. To access the restaurant front entry there are no stairs so it's easy to access whether on foot, crutches, or wheelchair. I'll definitely come back to try more delicious food items. Also, the restaurant is black owned, and the other House of Soul restaurant is on the South side of Indy.

I wanted to love this place soo bad since its a soul food restaurant on the North side of town but unfortunately I don't. So prior to my food being ready I waited almost an hour for a 4pc perch dinner and a 12 piece wing family meal that cost me $65.00. When the food was finally ready I pulled off to check the food only to find out one of the tops to my container was cracked and my strawberry lemon cake was missing. When I brought it to their attention, they replaced the top but told me they can't refund me for a desert they didn't have because the owner doesn't allow refunds. They did offer me an alternative however if I wanted something else besides strawberry lemon cake I would have ordered it. At this point, Im irritated and annoyed so I take the pudding they offered and drove off. I finally make it home to learn my side of greens (that I paid extra for) is missing, the chicken and fish is nasty and Im out of $65 along with 9 pieces of chicken left because my family refuses to eat it. If you decide to visit due it at your own risk.

Let's just say, the customer services doesn't reflect the quality of the product. I've been to this establishment three times now thinking it would be different, but it hasn't. First time, I went in to place an order and was told it would only be 20 mins, literally waited an hour and 15mins later. Second time, me and my girlfriend placed an hour online and was given a time when the food was ready, went in still wasn't ready nor greeted by the checkout counter. Yesterday, placed another order online and was given a time of 8:20 to pick up. My girlfriend goes in to pick up the order and wasn't greeted and was told "they're about to close". Mind you a whole event is going on before closing. Anyway, she was told our food was not ready and they would send an email that they'll let us know when it's ready for pick up. She then shows her the email receipt stating our food was ready. They reply " Oh, yeah it's not ready". Therefore, she returns to the car to rely the message fuming. So I just took the liberty to go through the pick up drove through since we were not given another time frame for our meals. Eventually, we got our food and it was hot and very good. The food has always been on point, it's the customer service practices that are lack luster and need a major improvement.

We were ending our vacation in Indy, and was looking for a place to go get some food and bring back to room. I tell you this place hit the spot, the catfish was great...food was fresh nice and hot. If you in the area this is a must and when we back in that area we will definitely go inside, nice place with great atmosphere.

Went there tonight! Omg! The food was awesome! The greens ahmazing! We had a great time. The music and vibe are cool, and we were excited to hear they have live music on the weekends. And the service was phenomenal! The ladies were kind, friendly, and recommended great food! The perch was great, as well as, the greens! Definitely will be back!

This place is one of the best soul food spots in the city! Between the friendly staff members, the fun atmosphere with good music playing, the bar, and the AMAZING FOOD!! This place has a lot to offer that other soul food spots don't and we will definitely be back!! 10/10 recommend!

Upon entering with a family of 8, it was confusing as there was no one there to seat us. We walked up to the register and was told we had to all order our food separately then sit at the table and wait. Although the band was very nice, it was so loud I could barely order my food. We were told after we paid that it would be a 45 min wait. They started to bring out food at different times so we all did not eat at the same time. Again, the band was awesome BUT it was too loud. Once we got home to eat our cake, we realized there was mold on the cake so my experience was not that great!

The service is a joke, the staff is unmasked, and good luck getting your food in a remotely reasonable time. Also, ask them to skip the seasoning salt. The food is already too salty. It took us almost an hour to get our counter-placed carry out order because they "lost" our ticket. The register and the kitchen have a large, open window connecting them. How they lost it, your guess is as good as mine.

Good concept but a bit confusing right now. No waiter/waitress...order online and food brought to table. Carryout different from online dine on menu. After waiting an hour for my food, it came in carryout bag and we were basically asked to leave for the next group. There's a bar but wasn't sure how to order. Food was average. Band---Jazzmen was REALLY GOOD!
