Stopped for a late lunch on a Saturday, maybe 1:30. Only 1 other couple was eating, so I started to (needlessly) worry. We ordered at the counter from a very nice cashier. The food (fried catfish plate and jerk chicken plate) was ready maybe 10 minutes later, when they called my name. It was hot, with ample portions, and very good. I highly recommend checking out.

I ordered the catfish, it was well seasoned and fried perfectly, The green beans were tasteless, the candied yams were amazing, and the Mac and cheese was just ok. I'd order again tho. Just would order different sides

The place has really good food. I just think they need to do some upkeep in the place, for instance, please fix the bathroom door.

If you are in the Gary area please stop by for this delicious soul food. The staff were welcoming and I will make a trip back from Chicago.

I've gone to this restaurant many times over the years and I've never been disappointed with the food or service. I highly recommend the jerk ranch for dipping or as a salad dressing 😋. Excellent place 👌 Debra the owner is a fantastic chef.

I'm so glad there is finally a dignified black owned restaurant in Gary Indiana. Hopefully you will expand to Hammond and EC because they deserve to enjoy this atmosphere

Came here for the first time. The Catfish is delicious. Mac and cheese greens really good

The people working in the restaurant are pleasant and the cashier has a great attitude. However it ends there. The food is not great. Hopefully I just caught them in a bad day and will try out something different the next time. I had the soul rolls of Mac n cheese/greens/corn which was ok. The holiday eggroll was horrible. I wondered if they wrapped one week old good from thanksgiving up and served it to me. Also left a bad aftertaste with that ranch jerk dipping sauce. The smothered pork chops was overcooked, dry and looked old. Thru tried to cover it up with fresh gravy and onions. Johnny cake was a no. String beans no. Black eye peas was just ok. I had to flavor em up with a little sugar. I would like to patronize my local establishments but not if the outcome is me wasting my money and throwing out the good. This review is certainly not to test down the establishment but a means yo help with improvement. I recommend to try them out because I’m wiling to try out couple more recommended entrees before I throw in the towel completely.

Went to D & K soul food in Gary, IN and the food was ☹️. How you cook soul food and one can smell it through the containers. 🤢

I had sweet potato’s that tasted like the pie. The mac n cheese didn’t have enough cheese. The grilled catfish was under cooked. The smothered turkey chops was greasy. The only thing that was ok was the Johnny Cake. Now my stomach hurts. My daughter is cooking herself something else to eat and my mother just threw it in the trash. If you want Soul Food, don’t go here. And if you do…. Good luck.
SN: maybe it was a bad night. But…. I won’t be trying them again.

FIRST OF ALL BLACK OWNED!!!!! STAFF IS A1!! THE FOOD IS FIRE!! ATMOSPHERE WAS SOOOO WARM AND HOMEY FEEL!! PERFECT PLACE FOR FAMILY OR JUST SOLO. CATFISH, GREEN, AND THE MAC!!! OH OF COURSE THE KOOL-AID!! I LITERALLY EAT AT THIS PLACE 1 OR 2 TIMES A WEEK!!!! YOU HAVE TO GO THERE!!
