I don't claim to be an expert on Soul Food, but I've had plenty of it in my travels. D&K is a family operation started by my friends Debra and Kendall. Super nice owners, I really think Debra has that magic touch when it comes to her menu items. The fried chicken I had was incredible, the breading was just right and chicken was juicy. The mac n cheese and greens were incredible as well. Don't forget to ask for some Johnny Cakes, they were as good as I've ever tasted. I'm looking forward to going back and trying everything on their menu.

I was invited to go with a really good friend. She wanted to experience this place. She ordered fried chicken, her chicken was raw. Raw chicken can kill you. We both ordered dressing and collard greens. Having eaten in 4 and 5 star restaurants in Chicago, New Orleans, Savannah, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Nevada, Mexico, and Canada and just for the record I have an exceptional palette. This place was one of the worst soul food restaurants that I have encountered. Dressings tasted like stove top dressings, nothing was homemade, the collard greens was to sweet with the stems chopped up in it. I like my collard greens with the stems removed. The cheesecake and lemon pound cake horrible. Nothing taste like real cheesecake. I couldn't believe this was cheesecake. The booth seating was uneven sucken seats. I've never experienced anything like it. The only good thing about this place was the young woman behind the counter. I will not be coming back to this place. I'm very passionate about my food when I cook or anything that I do. Whenever I do anything, I try to give it my all. I can cook better than these people. You never know who's coming to your establishment. Wow!!!

What a pleasant find! Passing through from Michigan to Chicago and came across this place. There were folks in there line dancing. Turns out it was a class! They also have whist nights and I wish I lived closer so I could check it out. The food was terrific! The portions were good-sized and the price was very reasonable. A simple place with no-frills, but very comfortable. Felt like being in someone’s home for an enjoyable night of soul food.

Absolutely delicious! The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out fast. I had the jerk salmon, shrimp with rice, fried catfish, and greens everything was amazing. Definitely worth trying, and I’ll definitely be back!

The yams and greens were good. The pork chops were not done at all to me I couldn’t even finish it. I don’t like soft pork chop if it’s fried it should be kinda hard with a crunch especially with pork.

Tried calling several times line was busy, finally got someone to pick up and confirm they were open because the times listed on their site were confusing. Got there and the young lady was very pleasant. Tried to order the turkey chops, they were out, tried to order the egg rolls.. out of those also. This is at about 5 and they close at 8. Ended up getting the catfish dinner with greens and Mac for my husband and I just ordered side of dressing and side of Mac. Wasn’t very satisfied, he stated his food was bland. I thought the Mac was just ok and the dressing was horrible. Probably won’t be back

Another black establishment failed their own kind. I asked the lady with the short blonde hair who was not doing anything at the time if I could have a fork. She looked for a fork with no problem, then blurted out “you can have a spoon”, unintentionally to me. She gave me the spoon in which I received and I then asked, “do you have a fork?”. She replied, “you didn’t have to take the spoon, forks are for paying customers.” Now, asking for a plastic fork that was not nuisance to some was an issue to this lady. It’s not that serious black people, especially a plastic utensil. Nonetheless, that incident will be the image when it comes to thinking about D&K soul food.

My first time here with my parents on senior day. My parents ordered and I ordered two meals. One was jerk chicken and salmon bowl for $17 and some change. The rice bowl looked like it should have been on a kids menu. The rice wasn't too good and only had a few pieces of shrimp and salmon in the bowl. I would expect more for the price. 2nd order I was supposed to have got smothered chicken chop over rice, Mac & cheese and greens. I trusted my parents choice to go there so I just grabbed my bag and left. Later when they took me home to Chicago I looked in the bag and noticed also they forgot my Mac & cheese. I had my stomach waiting and I got disappointed. I forgot to call to let my them know but I kept getting distracted. I'll definitely put a reminder on my phone to call tomorrow in hope they'll get better.
