Always love a good sushi lunch with Ichiban!
Ichiban is the gold standard for sushi.
The food is absolutely amazing and reasonably priced. They have great sushi and the portions are right on point. The service was great and the servers were really friendly and responsive. The atmosphere was enjoyable and easy to have a conversation. I always love Ichiban and will definitely go back!

Best in Central Indiana. I've tried most and this one is by far the best. Great deal! Great meal!

The general chicken is crunchy and not soggy. Sushi is fresh and the bar pours generously.

Surprisingly good fish in the chirashi but this is a place that really concentrates on their rolls and sauces...not at all why I go to a sushi place.
Found them on Yelp (no surprise) and ordered their chirashi for dinner plus the octopus salad to start and a Jim Roll just because I've never seen a crawfish and eel roll anywhere else. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen crawfish in a sushi restaurant.
Octopus salad was good but no different than you can find in a lot of places. Jim Roll was odd but kinda good. Something to try once but nothing that I will be craving in the future. I found the fishiness of the crawfish a bit overpowering. Chirashi was the next item to arrive. I found the fish very good with the salmon and yellowtail as the stand-outs. The inclusion of crab stick was pretty much worthless. Also, the rice was a little bit under-vinegar-ed and slightly bland as a result. Also, they didn't add anything extra to it and that felt a lot like a missed opportunity. Lots of places add some small pieces of pickled gourd and a little seaweed salad just for added interest.
Final note - one of the rolls the kid ordered had been scorched with a torch such that it had a very off-putting acrid taste. It was also layered with a couple of different sauces, some of which landed on her salmon nigiri. Pretty serious lack of attention to detail on her plate.

This used to be our favorite sushi place but in the past year we have not ordered it as much as we used to can't pin point why we were not enjoying it as much just a general not as good as it used to be the last time we ordered half the order was in correct we live 30 mins away beginning to not be worth the effort anymore
There’s something special about Ichiban. It’s not flashy. It doesn’t scream for your attention. It just quietly does what great places do: shows up with love, consistency, and a solid warm meal.
I work right next door, and over time this place has become more than just a lunch spot, it’s become a part of my rhythm. The staff may not know my name, and I don’t know theirs, but there’s a mutual respect that lives in every interaction. They move with intention and kindness, and that energy shows up in the food too!
Now, a quick word about the low reviews: don’t let them fool you. Some folks walk in expecting a cheap, rushed takeout joint and leave disappointed—not because the food is bad, but because they walked in with a closed mind and a dull palate. It’s not Ichiban they’re judging—it’s themselves. They’re so used to fast food and bland experiences, they can’t even recognize real quality when it’s right in front of them. That’s not a review, that’s a projection.
The sea urchin and white tuna here? Easily some of the best I’ve had in the city—fresh, delicate, layered with flavor. The vibe is chill and welcoming, whether you’re rolling in solo or bringing the whole crew. It’s a family-friendly space that doesn’t need gimmicks. Just heart.
If you appreciate craftsmanship, warmth, and the kind of meal that leaves you feeling better than when you walked in—then this is your spot. And if you’re reading this wondering whether it’s worth it? Trust me. It is.
10/10 would recommend!

My family has been coming here for sushi for over a decade, and it's still just as fresh and delicious. That's how you know a restaurant is good quality. Best sushi on the southside, and it's not even close.

This place has really gone downhill over the years if not to say it has reached the bottom! The food is definitely subpar, and that used to be the reason I went to eat here. My wife and I had a horrible experience, not once, not twice, but three times! We will definitely not be going back! The food is overpriced and definitely not very good. The waiter was hovering over us and trying to take our plates when there was still food on them. There are many more places on the south side of Indy to visit. I would definitely not recommend this one!
