One hour wait to be seated, and over 40 min. to be served ramen (completely ordinary ramen btw). Extremely overpriced and underwhelming cocktails.
If they were on Mass Ave., they’d be replaced by now. Once the foodie frenzy dies down, so will they… as is tradition.
A great place to stop for drinks. The vibes are immaculate.
Strange Bird is a must-visit ramen spot in Indianapolis. The ramen is rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care—deep broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and well-balanced toppings. The menu is creative without being overwhelming, and everything we tried was spot on.
The atmosphere is fun and modern, and the staff was friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. If you’re looking for high-quality ramen with great vibes, Strange Bird is absolutely worth the stop. Highly recommended. 🍜

First time here, and the place is warm and inviting. My review is based on what my experience in Japan was. For the gyoza, it was off putting that it was maybe half the size of any other gyoza I've had. I was disappointed that it wasn't mentioned, and the standard size in restaurants and freezer section is the norm. I think the chef made a bold choice in unique flavors, and the dipping sauce was different than standard dipping sauce. I wouldn't get them again, as I prefer traditional flavors, and sizes.
The ramen was better than many places I've been to in Tokyo. The broth was rich, full of flavor, and the noodles had the sponginess you expect. The egg, chashu, and pork were also perfect. There was a LOT of scallions. The only downside is that the proteins were minimal in quantity, especially for the cost.
The Kisimetic Rice Beer was spectacular, and fit the atmosphere.
This place is overall a great experience, though it's a bit pricey for the portions. I'm not expecting to take home leftovers, but a fish cake and 2 pieces of chashu would've balanced out the bowl.

If you want the best tiki drinks in indy and some really good ramen and oysters, you want to come here as often as you can.
My wife and I really enjoyed our date night at Strange Bird. This was our first visit, and now I can't believe it took us this long to try this place, because the food was just fantastic. We aren't into oysters at all, so we had gyoza, wings, ramen, and a few tiki drinks. I used to manage a Japanese restaurant, so I'm pretty opinionated about how Japanese food should be done, and the shoyu ramen was honestly the best I've ever had. The noodles were not too soft or too hard, the broth was complex and umami, the pork and chicken cuts were flavorful, and the egg was just perfect. My wife had the birria ramen and really enjoyed it but she tried my shoya and liked it better. Tiki drinks were fun, but I liked the house old fashion best (aged rum and citrus and banana bitters) and had to get a second one. I had key lime pie for dessert and it was also the best I've ever had (lots of lime zest!). We will definitely go back to Strange Bird. Thanks for a lovely evening! Keep up the great work, guys!

A friend and fellow foodie recommended this spot to me a few weeks ago and it was well worth the drive (from Columbus, IN). Everything was on point— from the laid-back tiki bar ambiance to the thoughtful and expertly crafted food and drinks!
Highly recommend everything we had… and probably everything else on the menu too 🤭

Great decor, our server, Nick, was excellent and so was the food. They are very accommodating to vegan diets, will sub tofu for any chicken wings, have 2 ramen options as well as a tofu entree. The Goyza is amazing and 3 vegan homemade desserts. Cool tiki drinks too!
Our go to in the neighborhood!
