This was our second time at the onion after several years to try to give it another chance after our first experience. I’ll start with saying the staff seemed really kind - that wasn’t the issue at all.
I don’t like cucumber so I chose a roll specifically that didn’t have them (or it wasn’t listed), and my fiancé has a food intolerance to bamboo shoots. He asked for his without bamboo shoots, and I didn’t see a need to ask for sushi without something that wasn’t listed.
Almost every other sushi option except maybe three had cucumbers so it was pretty limited.
I never complain about food or even mention it unless it’s just something that I don’t eat. In this case it was at least half the roll, and the flavor of cucumber was overpowering and I just could do it. So I asked for clarification. We also just ignored that his had bamboo shoots because he could just eat around them.
I was told that by default that all the sushi rolls just come that way, so I asked for a to go box thinking my fiancé may want it the next day. I could overhear our waitress talking to someone about it behind us. The manager or maybe owner came up with the check and said that they would make it that way next time if I asked for it. When I pulled up the menu, she said that they ran out of room for printing. I said that it was pretty dangerous to do that because of food allergies, and honestly thinking about it that doesn’t make sense because several of the options had two rows of descriptions with things listed. I would’ve been totally satisfied with what was originally listed in the roll, remaking it, but the addition of cucumber was something I couldn’t get past.
Regardless, we ended up paying and just leaving. I have no intentions on going back and I write this just as a forewarning. If you have food allergies, intolerances, or just don’t like a certain food - it’s a gamble on what you’ll get.

It’s been over a year since I’ve visited this place. But I wanted some teriyaki chicken. I must say the soup was really good. The teriyaki chicken with vegetables and white rice with freshly made and very warm and tasty. But the star of the shell was the wonton soup. They had a very good broth flavor. It was very tasty. Even my eggroll was very warm and fresh and taste good. Overall, the food was very good and I definitely would recommend trying. It’s a place ran by a couple so the inside of the building and outside needs some work, but they are friendly and provide great food. The prices are very affordable as well. My whole meal was only like $10 for lunch and I’m full. Definitely recommend.

Everything was good except my egg roll smelled like rotten meat. Putrid! I'm hoping I don't get sick from taking that bite.

The menu said my dish was “sweet and spicy” but when I got it, it was just smothered in sour sauce.

The basil chicken was excellent and all fresh. I ordered my meal spicy and the lady brought me extra chili oil which was of great quality. The dining area was very clean and has a pleasant retro look and the owners are so personable and kind.

Used to like this place, won’t go back. Both meals we got were not good, had some weird chemical flavor in both, tiny portions and they forgot the rice.

I've lived in the area for 25 years in this is my first time here. I have really missed out! Everything was great including a robot that delivered our meals! We loved it.

I love this place. This is old-style home-cooked Chinese at super great prices with lots of flavor that doesn't feel heavy.
It's like stepping into your grandmother's (OLD) house. The menu is very diverse and you'll find something for everyone.
The service can be slow, but, they don't have a lot of people working there; but, everyone who does work there is super friendly. Even the robot!
I drive over the river from East Louisville to eat here because everything in Louisville is just greasy, heavy, tastes-like-everything else Chinese, but Onion is like your grandmother or super great cook mom made it for you at the stove. But better.

Need something outside to let us know this is an Asian food place. Some Chinese letters or say Asian bistro. I had no idea what kind of place this was.

They close at 10pm I walked in the door at 915pm after driving 25 minutes to get there only to be told the kitchen is being cleaned did I want to order takeout? Meanwhile there is a dining room full of people eating and just a thought but doesn't the kitchen prepare the takeout food? The same kitchen that was being cleaned?
