Best fast food burger around but extremely hard to get to as its in the notre dame campus

Only in my senior year at Notre Dame did I really discover the wondrous treasure that is Smashburger, located specifically in LaFortune Student Center. It is, seriously, one of my favorite burgers and now that I am an alumnus, I look forward to having it anytime I return to ND. If you are inclined to love the hearty and cheesy like I am, then here is the burger concoction that you must order: double smashburger (with cheese, obviously), with pickles, onions, smash sauce, and a FRIED EGG. This will blow your mind, and here is why. Obviously, I should begin by noting the potato bun, which is commendable and serves its function: to keep together the burger's many elements and ensure that it does not fall apart. But here is one of the greatest elements: patty/cheese interaction. Like Five Guys, but perhaps even better than that wonderful chain, in the Smashburger there is a tremendous interaction between the beef and the cheese. I cannot overstate the importance of this for me. If a burger is too greasy, then this exchange of meat and cheese becomes too oily and overwhelms the palate. Yet even worse is the unexciting burger that neither has enough grease (probably because the patties are not fresh enough) nor has actually melted cheese. This travesty is very aggravating and always ruins my burger experience. If you need an example of this, just drive through Burger King. Another fantastic part of the Smashburger is the fried egg. I cannot think of any burger chain, fast food or other medium-tier burger chain, that provides this option. No doubt, to add a fried egg to an already oustanding number of calories is not for those concerned about their intake of cholesterol. But why should we have any restraint when it comes to the burger, the quintessential emblem of American excess? Overindulge in this delight and add a fried egg to your next burger, and the magic that you will experience in your mouth will enchant you. I should not forget the nontrivial role of the smash sauce, that adds further moisture and flavor. The pickles and onions, furthermore, provide a great zing and pop to the creaminess of the egg and the satisfying patties themselves. If you order a Smashburger as I have prescribed, you will confront one of the most formidable but rewarding, dynamic but simple, sandwiches that a burger chain can provide you. I close with the words of Friedrich Nietzsche, hoping that you surrender to my request and give way to gluttony: "The great epochs of our life are the occasions when we gain the courage to rebaptize our evil qualities as our best qualities"

The food is delicious but this location is very awkward!

Smash burger has the best sandwiches on campus. But the service has been lagging with this grubhub system. I always have to open my bag and make sure they gave me what I ordered. A month ago I ordered a Crispy Chicken with the works and all I got was a chicken filet in a bun, no lettuce, tomato, nothing. Another time I asked for ketchup and didn't get any.

Never eaten at a smash burger. Pretty unexceptional burger although the sweet potato fries were thin cut and had good crisp. Burger was good sized, over priced but a good meal for a hungry dude.

Excellent place to eat on campus. In my own experience, the food items are delicious, and the customer service was quite good. Try out any of the burgers. They are definitely a good alternative instead of eating at the dining halls.
