The establishment was very bare, but on the far side of the wall there was a beautiful painting of women hand-making some pupusa's. An elder woman (whom I suspected was the chef, host, and cashier) greeted us at the counter. We each ordered the "Special" and soon we were noming on her freshly made creations. There were three flavors, pork/cheese, bean/cheese, and cheese so we decided to do one of each. These pupusa's had simple ingredients, but because they were freshly made I thoroughly enjoyed them and for just $7 I'd gladly come back for these cheap eats.

Perfect little shop, Pupusas are perfectly authentic and the Salvadorian cabbage on the side is amazing. Cash only but worth the trip to the atm.

Homemade pupusas on demand. you will see and hear them being made. Slap, slap, slap! Because they are made right before they are served to you, they will be muy caliente! Let them cool off a little then enjoy the softness of the outside and ooey-gooey inside. We had the bean and cheese and the pork and cheese. Both delicious with a little sauce on top and slaw for texture. The price is right - three pupusas plus drink for $7. One thing I would change about Girasol - an alternative to the styrofoam takeout containers they use.

Be ready to wait, but know the wait is well worth it! Call in advance and pick-up. Unique and ever so delicious. The owner definitely puts her love and soul into her work and you can taste the difference.

I wanted to try the three different papusas offered, but when I went in to order (carryout only) there was a customer waiting and the woman behind the plexiglass barely spoke to me. I asked her again what she said since the sound blocked her voice and she repeated whatever she was saying. I tried one more time and said I'm sorry, but I'm having a hard time hearing you with this plexiglass. She wouldn't come up beyond the counter and rolled her eyes clicking her tongue indicating she was extremely annoyed with me. Then she came up closer to the glass and I heard what she said. That I would need to wait 15 minutes since she was making his papusas first. At that point, I decided I wouldn't purchase anything from someone so rude. Who wants to eat food made with such discontent?

Papusas are sooooo good. Very friendly El Salvadoran lady working hard and making amazing papusas!! Call a head and order or stop in and order and give her some time to work her magic. It's worth the wait. We live in Michigan and every time we go to South Bend we bring a few dozen of these amazing treats home. They come with a wonderful cabbage salad and red sauce. Yum!
