I spent $23 at Panera Bread today and had a really disappointing experience.
The chicken sandwich was cold, and the lettuce was clearly spoiled (I have photos). The cheese on the sandwich tasted stale, and the vegetables were not fresh — I ended up throwing the tomatoes away.
I also ordered a bagel with cream cheese and received a dry bagel with the cream cheese on the side. Since I was driving, I had to pull over to prepare it myself.
The grilled cheese wasn’t grilled at all — the bread was soft, not toasted, and it was just plain American cheese with no flavor.
For the price Panera charges, this quality is unacceptable. This experience did not match the brand’s reputation and was not worth the cost.

Ordered lunch in the drive thru around 12:15ish, young lady at the drive thru sounds like she is miserable and has a bad attitude. Our bread was cold like it just came out of a fridge. Chicken bacon ranch sandwich the bread was hard and stale and had barely any chicken/ranch/bacon on it for it to even be considered a sandwich. I paid $29 for trash. Kinda want a damn refund, wasting my hard earned money on bullshit food.

Check your order before leaving!!
For the past 2 years that I've been coming here weekly, they always forget something in my order. It doesn't matter if it's dine-in or drive-thru. When I get a text message that my order is ready, it's not. When I tell the cashier I'm missing things from my order, I get a blank, shocked face, no idea what I'm missing. On top of missing food or drink items, I'm always missing utensils or straws. Or, I get a fork for soup and a spoon for salad. If I ask for a sugar packet at the drive-thru window, the cashier panics and runs around. I thought they would have learned six sigma by now and have key items by the drive-thru cashier.

We ordered several soups. With the bowls in the side no matter what the cost. I have never given a soup a chance in an establishment other than cafe, full service restaurant from old ways of thinking. I'm grateful for trying the the Seasonal Squash. This soup I had to eat a little bit at a time on account it tickled the taste scenes into Intoxicating Good. I couldn't believe it since I'm sure I can't even remember how long ago it had been for that .

My order of coffee to serve for teachers at Derby public school was not ready I placed it for 6:10 am and it’s 7:02 and the coffee is not ready maybe that the girl who took my order wrote it on a croissant bag was not a good sign.

unfortunately anytime i go, my order is never correct or complete. which can be frustrating when im paying for those items. i don’t mind running inside to ask too. but usually every encounter ive had hasn’t been pleasant :( it’s probably worth it just to drive out east. they have great service & everyone is super kind.

This place is a mess .. they couldn't get the order right . It was still wrong after I talked to the manager and they shorted the order..plus while waiting I watched them drop kitchen utensils on the floor and put them back on the counter. This is my second time trying to give them a chance but they can't seem to get it right!

My order wasn’t ready when I arrived. Had to wait 10 minutes. No one greeted me upon arrival or said a word to me. I went back to the counter where the dining in customers pick up their food, to see if it was almost ready. No one in the kitchen acknowledged me. My salad was missing the avocado and they ran out of the dressing for the salad. They gave me ranch instead. The employees were working in slow motion & looked like they could care less. The bakery display case was a mess; looked like raccoons ransacked it.
Every time I come to this Panera location they are out of this or that. The last time I attempted to dine there, they were out of every single soup. We ended up going somewhere else.

Restaurantji Recommends
I came in for breakfast yesterday morning. I was missing a couple of things, so naturally I go to the counter to ask for the things. This young lady in a orange hat had dropped what she was doing IMMEDIATELY to ask what I needed. When I told her she apologized nicely, and got me the stuff I was missing just as fast she also asked how the restaurant can improve for the future! Most of the other times I've been here I was ignored, but she noticed me and acknowledged me. I hope this store continues to improve. I will come by again!

The portion sizes for the cost are a joke! Bought food meant to feed 5 and left two adults and a child still very hungry!

I have only ever been to a Panera Bread location twice before, and this was my second time here. Tonight, I had a very good service experience. When I walked in, there was two ladies who were being helped by an associate. After they paid, the associate left the front counter, even though I was standing next in line. After a few minutes, I started to think about leaving. An associate who was about to leave for the day, came up to clock out. She saw me waiting and, instead of leaving, helped me with my order. Awesome customer service! I didn't get her name, but that associate deserves a raise.

Disappointing Experience at Derby Location
I recently visited the Derby Panera Bread with my family—a group of eight. While placing our order, the staff member assisting us (a woman with red hair) came across as somewhat abrasive, giving the impression that we weren’t entirely welcome. It wasn’t a major issue, but it did set a disappointing tone for the visit.
After we finished our meal, I approached the front counter to ask if they had a to-go container for soup. The same staff member handed me a clear bowl that looked more suitable for salad. I asked, “Is this for soup?” and she responded curtly with, “Your guess is as good as mine.” I was taken back by the rudeness of her reply and didn’t catch her name, though I wish I had.
Just before she returned with what appeared to be the salad bowl, I made eye contact with another staff member and we exchanged polite smiles—just a simple, courteous moment of human interaction. I’m not sure if he saw what happened next, but it was a lot to take in.
Afterward, I returned to my family, and one of them mentioned that to-go bowls were available at the pickup counter. I hadn’t seen them earlier because I was playing with my nephew for his birthday when our food was brought out. I went over and found a to-go bowl, but there were no large lids available. I asked the same staff member who had smiled at me earlier—a man with long grey hair—and he was extremely helpful and friendly, just the kind of service you hope for every time you visit.
Overall, it was a disappointing visit. I hope management will take steps to improve customer service training so future guests feel more welcome and respected.
