Fun place and tbh the food is always good. Service is a miss more often than not, but the other attributes make up for it.

I went for lunch and got the 10 special and had a cheeseburger and added bacon. It came with fries and a drink. Burger was good but the fries were very sad I had under 10 regular sized fries and the rest were all 1 inch nubs.hiding underneath. 😢 the sweet tea was good too.

Very disappointed. Service took almost 2 1/2 hours. Under staffed, appetizer came after food, salad came with food. Server was nice, but cared very little about the wait time. No management to be found. Watched others cancel their order and leave.

Went to okay Pickleball an they courts were nice. They are outside so it was hot but they had multiple ones. Got food after an it was pretty good. Quick service an friendly. Had multiple TV's throughout. Highly recommend for friends an family. There were lots of families with young children so the atmosphere was open.

I was sitting for two hours with a menu hoping for even just a drink. Sadly I never got my drink or my food so I ended up going home hungry. I was very upset with this and felt I had to make sure I give this place a one star for such service. I wasn’t talked to one time. Very poor service.

Mediocre at best. It's like chicken n pickle, but worse food and added outside sand volleyball courts. Our waitress was great and super attentive, so I give service a 5 star. But there were other staff members sitting around alot. Building isn't as impressive on the inside as outside.

Disappointed with the Inconsistency and Service
We visited Sandbox today and arrived at 10:30 AM, only to be told they didn’t open until 11. No problem — we came back at 11, planning to enjoy brunch. However, we were then told that brunch is no longer served, and the staff made it clear they were not willing to accommodate that.
Knowing that bacon and eggs were still on the menu, we asked if we could order them à la carte. After a long wait, they finally agreed — but it took quite a while to get any clarity or service.
We were one of only three people in the restaurant, yet the experience still felt slow and disorganized. We ordered a drink, only to be told 10 minutes later that the blenders weren’t working. Ten minutes after that, the drink still hadn’t come, so we settled for a Diet Coke.
As Derby locals, we’ve been to Sandbox many times throughout the year. Unfortunately, the experience has become increasingly inconsistent. Management seems to constantly rotate, and while some of them clearly recognize us, they act like they’ve never seen us before. There’s a lack of warmth, hospitality, and appreciation for loyal, returning guests.
It would go a long way to feel genuinely welcomed and valued — especially in a town like Derby, where word-of-mouth and repeat business matter. The high turnover, lack of leadership continuity, and uneven service make it hard to recommend this place, even though the concept and space have so much potential.
We want to support Sandbox. We want it to be the spot where we can bring friends for lunch, dinner, or a drink. But for that to happen, the consistency in food, service, and atmosphere needs to significantly improve — and it starts with leadership, staff training, and pride in the guest experience.

The food was mediocre and the men's bathroom was a nastiest smelling thing I've been in in a long time.... Makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is!

I had Bridget as a server. She did a great job! She was very welcoming and would check in to make sure everyone’s needs were met. A great experience overall, definitely would go back!

Gave this a 2nd try. Wasn't impressed the 1st time. Had a ribeye and ordered med rare. Came out well done said something about it and the manager came out and said that's how they cook med rare. This was like 3 months after they opened. Went back tonight finally to give them another chance. They were not busy as you can see from the picture I posted. The waitress came and took our order, ordered a Guinness beer and Dr pepper for drinks and the sampler platter for app. Got the Dr pepper but no beer. Ordered our meals. Then had to flag down the waitress to see where the beer was my friend wanted to drink and she said she hadn't gotten it from the bar yet because there was a line. (Not even) The bar tender said she never received a order for a Guinness. Finally got the beer and it was all head and flat. Tried to find the waitress like 30 mins later to see where the appetizer was and here she came with our dinners. Asked about the appetizer and she just groaned and said oh sorry. She didn't put the order in for it. Then I went to eat my pork chop and baked potato and I had a knife that came on the plate to eat with no fork. Waitress no where to be found again. I can understand if they had been swamped but they were not. Will not be giving them a 3rd chance.
