I was served a salad being bombarded by gnats and when I told the waiter, he said the manager would be notified; they did nothing.

Beer & Food is always excellent here, but what sets the Free State brewery apart from all others is the awesome service & the friendly staff!

We had a chance to have dinner with our grandson at KU. He thought we would enjoy Free State, and he was right. The new Orleans pasta is amazing. Thick, chessey Mac and cheese with the perfect amount of chicken added. If you leave Free State hungry or thirsty, it is your own fault because they gave great food, drinks, and service.

Agh, it hurts to admit Free State is no longer my "go to" in Lawrence. I was honestly embrassed after recommending and talking it up it to people last weekend - then we all go and have a bad experience. Service, especaially the host, was less then stellar. Food was okay, but there are so many other great options near by now a days. Of note, the goat cheese appetizer was delicious, but only enough bread to eat about half of the dip.

My father brought me some Stormchaser IPA back to Saskatchewan Canada for me to try. I absolutely love IPA. It’s my go to whenever I want to try a craft beer. I am an amateur home brewer myself. Let me tell you this IPA really nails it especially if you don’t like the extra “hoppy” beer. The hops definitely are not hidden or mild by any means but they certainly don’t burn your nostrils like some IPAs do. Super smooth on the palate almost like a lager would be but has a nice hop finish. Looked up the story online and when the passport’s come in we will make a trip down and pay a visit.
I have never been charged for one sample of a new beer and I'm not about to start now. When I asked about the policy the bartender belittled me, implying that I was trying to freeload. I was willing to overlook that they have had the same menu for 20 years, but this is the worst brewery experience I have had in 30 years of going to microbrews. Shameful.
Such a cute place. Fancy food, great beer. Nice date spot

Lacey was an excellent server, and the food and drink was great, as expected. I had the fish and chips (which are some of the best I’ve ever had) and the Horsefeather Radler, which was unlike any other beer I’ve had before. The prices were also very reasonable; we had a delicious lunch for two with drinks and dessert to share for $50. I’ll definitely be returning the next time I’m in Lawrence!
