Started going to the "Hawk" in fall 1982. Drinking age at that time was 18 for 3.2% beer. It was a beer only joint back then. I was there for just about every Thursday barrel night.......which meant I usually missed my Friday morning classes. The place has changed a lot since the 1980's. I have many fond memories of my visits to the Hawk. Wish I could go back in time and live it all over again.
If you're looking for a college bar full of student life, this is the place for you. The 'Hawk' is a favorite among KU students. Cover is typically $5 but the drinks are fairly priced once inside. For those visiting, this is primarily a student bar; you won't find many people here over the age of 25. The bar is usually crowded and the bathrooms are usually dirty as a result.
