Walking into J. Gilbert's (our first time there) is like walking into a nice restaurant you walked into 30 or more years ago. Dark wood, limited lighting, music that sounds like Nancy Sinatra singing a song by The Police arranged by Doc Severinsen. But they're pretty full because the food hits the target 100%. A classic wedge salad, perfectly tender filet mignon cooked to the temperature you ordered, grilled asparagus, and an over-the-top loaded potato (you can save hundreds of calories by having them serve it with only butter on the side), and the quintessential chocolate dessert. Good drinks at a handsome bar, and attentive but not stuffy service. What else could you have wanted in 1990? Or today?

Our server was Matt and he was fantastic! He was so helpful and provided great recommendations. We had such a great time! Every bit of food was great. Probably the best oysters and crab cake I have ever had! Thanks you for a great dining experience!

Wow. I am beyond impressed! This was our first experience and we will absolutely be back.
The attention to detail, quality of the food, and immaculate service exceeded my expectations.

Our server was Matt and he was amazing! We celebrated our anniversary here and they took the best care of us.

I had the lamb with grits and mushrooms. I normally don't like grits or mushrooms, but this were the exception. Everything was delicious!

Food and service was phenomenal. Matt/Matthew gave amazing recommendations, suggested wine pairings, as well as made my wife's and I'm anniversary super special. We were worried that we would get a rushed or limited experience as we went during KC restaurant week, but that wasn't the case at all. Matt was patient and didnt feel like he was rushing us at all. The food was amazing, my wife normally hates mushrooms and isnt a fan of grits, but she ate BOTH! I Want more of that raspberry ice cream.... Will visit again.

Lastly, I was very surprised they did something special for us while we were celebrating our anniversary. A lot of places "ask" online during reservations, but never do anything with it.

Dined with J. Gilberts on New Years Eve and the experience was fabulous! Meili took excellent care of us. We did not have to "want" for anything. She anticipated every need and did it with a smile. So rare these days at any level of dining scale. We sat next to the fireplace and Christmas tree which added to the experience and was very cozy. We are already fans of J. Gilberts but this one was worth the google review!

Overpriced and under seasoned steak. You can get the same quality of steak at any big chain steak house. The service was good as one would expect after spending 200$ on a table for two.
