On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina - Oak Park

I used to love this restaurant, my local branch closed one day. No warning just here one day gone the next. When I found this one open I was excited to try it. It was as I expected in all but the food. I got the dish I always used to get. I got the classic Burrito with chili con carne on it. I used to love this meal. It was wholly unimpressive. Each item tasted different, like they used cheap ingredients. The chili con carne sauce is normally the highlight of the meal. However it didn't taste the same and was not good. I didn't complain I ate about 1/3 of my meal got my box and threw the food away at the closest trashcan.

Service was extremely slow. Our drinks came after 20 min. Missed to serve Tortilla with my order of fajita, and food was clold by the time it arrived after 15 min. To top that Server was rude and was not apologetic for delayed service.

Chicken tortilla soup was good but I unfortunately received a tres leches cake that was so old the cake itself was actually dry (hard to do with a soaked cake) and tasted like rotted spoiled milk. I took one bite before quickly spitting it out and throwing it in the trash. My last 3 deliveries have been a mess, the last time my soup was literally broth with nothing else. Now a sour,dry make you sick cake.

Tasty food and good service. Chips were crispy and light, very good. All of the meals were made perfectly. Lettuce and tomatoes, and pico was fresh and crisp.

Everyone who works there is super nice. The food was prepared correctly. However, the quality of the food was terrible. Super disappointed - the steak for the fajitas was so bad I probably won't even finish it. (I did carryout). Waste of money - again, nothing to do with anyone who works there. Solely on the choice of vendor for the food.

Husband and I went last night and ordered the Guacamole Live appetizer. Our server, Rachel, was super friendly and made fantastic guacamole. She was vegan, and helped me navigate the menu as a vegan. I got the Guacamole Bowl at her suggestion. It tasted amazing and the pickled onions fit really well! That ended up being too much guacamole for me and I took the appetizer to go. But no regrets - Rachel gave us not just a normal to-go styrofoam container, but a whole chips bag, which I turned inside-out and put the guacamole in. I then turned it back right-side-out and tied it so there was no air in it, so it still tasted fresh the next day. Rachel was completely wonderful; we will absolutely be returning (and hoping we get her again)!

The atmosphere at On the Borders are very Catina feel like they should be. The food is great and you can't beat the prices. My waitress at lunch was fantastic.
