Tavern in the Village is a favorite of mine. The menu offers something for everyone. I always get the same thing - Tavern Salad with a piece of salmon - but my companions always seem to enjoy their various choices as well. It's a little loud but that just means people are enjoying the convivial setting. (I always ask for a quieter booth, if available.) We also order carryout regularly. Sadly there have been some mistakes, but overall we are pleased with that, too.
The whipped feta and watermelon dish is wonderful. We ordered filet mignon and the trout both were delicious. The noise level was off the charts but once the family with many children left it calmed down to a nice ambience. The wait staff were very good and attentive. I have a gluten allergy and everything is marked well on the menu and they brought toasted gluten free bread with the whipped feta dish. That was a very nice treat to have with the dish.
I have not been to this restaurant for about a year or so and am now wondering if it's because my expectations are never quite met. I guess it's fine and I thought the menu had improved over the years, but last night's food experience was just odd. Ordered the grilled salmon and kale salad. I did not know it was possible to pile that much kale on a plate. Salmon was fine, but could barely find the few slivers of beets or walnuts and could barely taste any dressing....
